2210 and Post Hole digger revisited

I'm looking at possibly buying a PH digger for my 2210. We're thinking about putting in some more fencing.
Tractor Supply Co. sells one for $385 plus $100 for the auger which is the best price I can find. I just don't know if it'll work with the 2210 without further modification.
I called a bunch of local dealers, and the prices have been pretty high for "name brand" equipment.
Prices I have found with 6" auger
Befco model 100 $745
Woods (no mod.#) $650-$700 (salesman guess)
Landpride model PD-10 $845

The $400 price range is competative against renting vs. buying for the job I have to do. I can't believe how expensive these things have gotten. Any suggestions/recomendations?

Hi cad blaster, I had wondered if a box blade they had would work with my x475 and they said I could bring it back if it didn't. You might want to ask them.

I used the PHD from TSC on my 2210. Worked okay, just a little low on clearance when on a slope. I used the 9" and 12" augers.
I don't think you would have a problem with the off brand unless you are going to use it to make a living.
There was room at the top of the auger if you wanted to shorten it some. I borrowed mine so did not make any mods.

Hi

I have the Tractor Supply PHD on a 2210,,works great, no problem. It does not lift it too high so the auger is pretty close to the ground so you have to be a little careful driving it around other then that it works fine.

This is good news. Two recomendations that say this unit works with the 2210. Especially since these things are about half the price of a "name brand" unit.
I think I read somewhere in the archives that someone had modified the boom pole to get a higher lift by adding another lift pivot point. I could do that, but it's good to know that it is not required.
I've got to go to TSC tomorrow. I'll have to take another look at them.

I mentioned in another post that I did buy the post hole digger from TSC.

It definately works with the 2210, I wish I had bought it sooner! Some notes on the use of this auger attachment with the 2210.

I had to buy a Cat 2 to Cat 1 reducer bushing for the boom arm pivot at the top link. TSC had these, and I brought my top link pin with me when I bought the attachment to confirm this. I did have to grind the bushing shorter to fit the tractor.

The unit is shipped dry so it requires about a qt. of gear oil.

When mounting it, I left it set up as it came, using the center pivot mounting hole (boom to "U"-pipe pivot). I found that it does drag the ground a little bit in this position, not much, but enough that I changed it to the pivot hole closest to the tractor. This increased the overall lift height but it does hit the plastic fender at full lift height. Not really a problem.

The hole alignment handle can not be mounted at full extension. It interferes with the "U" pipe at full hole depth and bends. If I was using it with an assistant, I would mount the handle out and this wouldn't be a problem, but I was doing it by myself, and needed the handle towards the tractor to line up the holes.

For most of my digging I barely needed to come off idle, with a 9" auger. It works really well, well that is until I hit a boulder bigger than the size of a basketball on my second hole which required digging it out. No auger would go through this.

That's about all I can think of for now, I can't wait to put in the rest of the fence. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
