I'm considering getting a 2210 for:
- Mowing approx 3 acres
- Snow blowing 700 ft gravel driveway
- grading driveway
- grading dirt for planting grass around new home (property will be rough graded by the contractor.

The driveway is gravel with crusher dust so it packs in pretty tight. Assuming the 2210 can do these chores, I'm interested in recommendations for the best attachmet for the grading of the driveway and property (blades vs box scraper)

Bill D,

Can't tell without graphics which implements would best suit your needs -- but -- snowblowing any kind of, less-than-frozen gravel driveway, is bound to be repairs-n-maintainance time on the unit as-well-as replace the gravel in the spring club...

Pave the driveway...I know, I just paved 10,580 s.f...you'll wonder what took you so long to get to it...

As for the 2210, with what you described, you won't be disappointed!

Cheers,

Thanks JDFanatic - I've been wondering if a blower on gravel
would be a problem. Anyone have thoughts on using a FEL to clear snow (Southern Tier of New York State)? I am concerned that if I try a blade, I'll run out of room to push the snow. Paving isn't an option - I wouldn't be able to afford a tractor /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Loader worked fine for me last winter on my gravel drive (only about 200ft though). You can clear most snow going forward and backdrag/smooth going backwards, this removed far less gravel than the front blade on my old 425 did. If you were to get a boxblade as well, you could likely do both operations at once in the snow.

I use my FEL for snow. Works great but be sure to get the turf tires ! You'll want those to mow any how. My drive is shorter than your but even this past winter the FEL was a great tool for snow removal. Not as fast as a blower but it has a lot more uses. You won't be dissapointed with the 2210 for your needs.

"I've been wondering if a blower on gravel

I used a snowblower for years at two different homes on gravel driveways. I set the front edge up a bit using the side skids. It always blew a little gravel here and there, which took me maybe an hour in the spring to rake or pick up by hand and toss back onto the driveway, but no big deal.

I only had one rock jam between the augur and hood in all those years and break a shear pin. It jammed so hard that I had to take it in for service, though. It helps to make sure the gravel is raked pretty level before winter. If you hit a little pile, it will sound like a blender full of rocks.

My blower was a 2-stage, by the way. I was always a little concerned because of the upper stage speed, but it was never a problem. What you do want to watch is where you have the discharge aimed. While you should be careful with a snowblower on any surface, you KNOW you're going to shoot a few rocks on gravel.

How do you do it? Do you skim and leave some snow? Tilt the front edge up a bit, or just what?

I'm outside of Jamestown NY and used a combo of FEL and backblade until I had a good solid base down, at which point I switched over to the blower. Turning the backblade to the "reverse position" prevented the blade from digging in to my native surface/gravel drive. With the FEL, I tipped it slightly upward to prevent digging in, just ran with it in float position all the way down. Equally effective to prevent digging in. Blower beat 'em both for speed, but like I said, I really needed a good base or I was sure to pick up gravels/rocks. Good luck to you!

Usually left a skim coat of snow on the gravel--it would get pretty hardpacked after a couple of days and make a nice smooth surface for future clearing operations. I would scrape the end of the drive clean so no one would slide into the street however.

In my case I was throwing snow 70ft or more with my garden tractor! actually I filled in my neighbors driveway, I was lucky because i was going to do his anyway, but since I filled it in I had to /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
