Has any one replaced the fuel filter on their 2210 yet ? Mine looks a little grungy in the bottom of the bowl. I do Use DFA. The manual says to change when your fuel tank is low. I was wondering why that matters when you shut the fuel off at the filter first. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Only reason I could think of was to get rid of any extra sediment that was in the tank itself. I ran mine pretty low, and then removed filter and sediment bowl and let the tank drain out to get it really clean (after seeing all the metal bits in the hydraulic tranny fluid (during that oil change)I wanted to getting anything cleaned up I could).

I changed the filter today. When you turn off the fuel and remove the filter there is still a very slow drizzle of fuel. No biggie if you have a full tank as long as you have every thing ready to re-install a new filter. 75 hours and one year on the original. It was just plain nasty with spots of rust and a lot of corrosion on the bottom. I had been using Power Service DFA.

That sounds like a warranty issue. Fuel shut-off valves are expected to shut off the flow of fuel, not slow it.

Where are you buying the fuel? How are you storing it? Are you keeping the tank full in the winter?

To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing in the tractor's fuel system that could introduce rust or corrosion. That has to either be in the fuel when you buy it or come from your storage container.

I'm not trying to alarm you, but dirty fuel can be very annoying, particularly in cold weather. When it's cold and the fuel is thick, even a little dirt in the filter can bring things to a screeching halt.

Better to figure out what the problem is now than wait until it shuts you down.

Best,

Jim Fisher

It's not a warranty issue. This is why your owners manual says in bold highlight to change the filter when the fuel is low. If you could lock it off completely then I think you would not have a self priming system. I only use premium auto Diesel that I run in my truck. If I cut open a fuel filter on my truck and it was in that shape I would freak out. All Diesel fuel contains some water. You should not have thick fuel in the winter if you run DFA. A lot of guys use the Power service because its inexpensive and readily available. It has one significant draw back. No water protection. Power Service does not add that to their additive package and it shows. I will still use PS in the summer but certainly not in the winter when the tractor sets. Overall the problem, if you could call it that is a simple fix.....one new fuel filter /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Docsknotinn,

What do you use in winter?

Something with water protection and a biocide. This is primarily because of the amount of time my machine sets in the winter. I just picked up a few bottles of Schaeffers winter DFA to try this winter. I think that a shot or two of Power Service Diesel 9-11 wouldn't hurt either.

My 2210 JD is running smoothly and everything was working, but a couple of days ago, it started running hot although it had plenty of JD coolant. I put it up to let it totally cool down. When I tried to use it a few days later, everything worked, but it keeps killing when I put it in gear. Is this fuel filter/line problem? Suggestions??

It sounds like you have multiple issues to me.. You dont say how many hours you have on the 2210, so I will assume it is older since the 2210 has been replaced with different model numbers by now..

1) running hot - make sure that grill and the interior screen (just in front of the radiator) is clean

2) Running hot - replace the radiator cap - cheap solution to a typical overheating

3) Running hot - maybe time to flush the radiator as well

4) Killing when put in gear - there is a switch under the seat that kills the engine if weight on the seat doesnt 'de activate' the switch..

5) Killing when put in gear - I dont think it would start, but make sure that the PTO is OFF and that the transmission is on neutral

good luck
