2210 service intervals

As I re-read the manual, I find it hard to believe the service intervals for maintenance.

oil/filter - 200 hours
fuel filter - 500 hours
air filter - as needed

I use my machine about 50-60 hours a year. Do you guys follow the above schedule, or do it all once a year regardless. At work I am around lots of big diesel engines, and know that clean fuel filters are a must especially for water separation. I am inclined to change all once a year (about 50 hours or so). What is everyone else doing?

I'm with you prosperity. Changing filters and fluids often is cheap and worthy maintenance.

I put about 80 hours a year on my JD 755. (60 summer/20 winter). I change the oil and filter in the spring and just the oil (to a lighter weight) in the fall.

Fuel filter and air filter get changed every 2 years but the air filter gets blown out with compressed air spring and fall.

The manual says to change the hydro fluid every 500 hours. I do it every 250 hours. It always comes out clean and that's the way I want it.

The guy at the parts counter keeps telling me I don't have to do this stuff so frequently. I tell him I know I don't have to. I want to /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

JD 755, 16 years old, 1200 hours, still going strong. Although my new 4310 is sitting at the dealer waiting for the 430 loader to be delivered /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I believe in doing the fluid changes way before needed,also..The only person who makes out on that is the person who buys one of my machines used..I know a guy who drove dodge 360 motor 60,000 miles and never changed the oil from new except for once at 3000 miles..Then he put in a new motor after it locked up at 60,000 miles..

Changing fluids is cheap insurance..oil prices sure do not seem to follow fuel prices..

I agree with those who say to change fluids more often than recommended. This is especially important with the motor oil in my opinion due to contaminants from the combustion process. It's cheap insurance.

I plan to change my oil/filter every 50 hours. At roughly 2 quarts its cheap insurance. I have even switched to Mobile 1 full synthetic. I used this in my old 445 for 7 years, and it didn't use a drop of oil when I let it go with 700 hours on it.

Not sure what I will do with the Hydo fluid. I just did the 50 hour initial service and switched to the standard Hy Guard for the summer instead of the Low Viscosity Hy Guard. I figured since it can hit highs of`100 degrees some summers and this hydo unit is only air-cooled (the 445 was liquid cooled) I should change the fluid with the seasons. But at 3.5 gallons, that’s about $30 bucks per change.

Hey, something else on the oils. When I did the 50 hour hydo change, pulled the sump pick up and screen, and it was covered with a lot more metal shavings than I would have liked to have seen. The magnets inside the screen were covered in a heavy coating of finer material. I’ve changed fluid in automotive transmissions before and never had that amount of material on the magnet. I guess the good news is that it was captured at the screen and magnets.

On the engine oil, 10 to 15 hours after a change, the fluid turns very black. Is this normal for the small diesels? On the 445 gas and my automotive stuff, it took longer than that to discolor, and never got that black. Any thoughts?

I am a big fan of the Mobil 1 products. I would not use regular Mobil 1 in my diesel tractor. I think the bottle does say it is ok but I guess I am skeptical as Mobil 1 makes diesel specific oils. I use Delvac 1 in my truck so that is what I now run in the 2210. At $25 a gallon its not what I would suggest unless you already have it. I hear from others that it is normal for the oil to get that black. I change mine every 50 hours and it does not ever seem to get that black. I think the Shell synthetic Rotella when you can get it at Wally World on sale at $12 a gallon is a best buy. I change my fuel and air filter every year. This spring my fuel filter had a fair amount or corrosion so for the $8 give or take that a filter cost it is cheap insurance. And I always run DFA. Its worth it just for the volume control.

John, I have been running diesels for the last 30 years and yes, the oil is ok to turn black. Diesel engines create soot and the oil is formulated to keep the contaminates in suspension and not let it settle out. This is why the old engines and old oil created sludge.

Thanks for your input guys. I am going to change oil/filter and fuel filter once every year in the fall unless I really start putting hours on.

Where I work they change fluids/filters by fuel consumption, but, they will also change some things based on time for equipment that doesn't get used much.
