2210 steering wheel play

Hi,
My 2210 with 650 hours has recently developed a little play in the steering wheel. Since it is hydraulic steering this baffles me. Where could there be freeplay? There is about 1/2" of play. Everything up front is tight, the play seems to be in the column somewhere from the "clicking" sound it makes. Could this be from turning the wheel with the engine off?

I'm curious as to why turn steering wheel without engine running. You may have air in steering system causing free play. Have you cycled steering several times with engine running to purge any air? No repair parts except a seal kit or complete valve are offered from JD.

At first it was the nephews playing on the tractor turning the wheel. Then I discovered it was easier to slip the 62c deck under if the wheels were slightlly turned to the right and I don't always bother to start the engine. Can this damage the hydraulic whateveritis at the base of the steering column?
