2210 vs. 30\' Reinforced Sidewalk
I just gotta' glow a little about my 2210 with you guys. It's at 100 hours now, and after tonight, obviously ready for most any "right-sized" job I can throw at it.
A little history: First, I've been posting about my "sidewalk to nowhere" on the projects thread, and have described a 30' sidewalk leading from my deck and patio area to...nowhere. There used to be an above-ground pool in the back of the house several years before we bought it. Anyway, I have been looking for tips on removal and discounted the 2210 early on in the process because I believed it would be a perfect clean-up and finishing tool and little help in actually breaking up the concrete. Well, it surprised me and my neighbor and now I have to get up eary tomorrow to cancel an electric jackhammer I reserved for the morning.
Anyway, tonight I said to heck with it, called my neighbor, and he brought over his digging bar, an old trailer axle and two beers. I used my mighty little 2210, and elbow grease from four elbows, and got it all pulled out in a couple hours.
I swear there must a a "grain' to the pour, because we beat, lifted and pried for awhile, then I slipped my loader under one corner and popped up a 10-foot-long piece. Couldn't lift it higher than a foot or two with the loader, but a couple thumps with the sledge created mangeable pieces. I dragged one of the 8-10 foot-long pices across my yard with a chain and the 2210 handled it like a champ, but I was at the tractor's limits. She's broken in now at 100 hours, so now's the time to use it for what it's designed. I found a lot more leverage under the slab with the curl on the loader than with the lift. Makes perfect sense when you think of the physics.
Just thought I'd give a little report as I think I have one of the more "mature" 2210s out there, delivered in February '03. Other than the resolved leak from the first few hours, she's taken everything I've dished up to this point. I definately don't think I would want to subject the tractor to that kind of work day in and day out, but it sure saved me a lot of time tonight, and a few bucks to boot.
Having 12 yards of screened and blended topsoil delivered tomorrow. A little clean-up, dirt distribution and leveling, some fescue seed, and rain would tie this one up. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
