Yanmar 2210BD
On the 2210BD there is a radiator/block drain bolted to a plate that must be removed to change the oil filter. I was looking at removing the plate and relocating the drain but the plate is bolted in so many places it appears to be a support brace as well. Does anyone know for sure if this is a support brace or not?

I've seen both 1334 and 1064 filters recommended for Yanmars. 1064 is smaller. You might try that first. I doubt Yanmar expected owners to remove the plate for each change.

If there's no access to turn the filter, you might need to get a filter socket that fits the visible end of the 1064 filter can. Then you turn that socket with an ordinary ratchet.

California, This has a short filter. The plate has the profile of the filter cut into it and is about an inch down from the top of the back of the filter. I have a filter socket that you speak of but the filter does not have enough room to unscew off. This plate is a captive device.

kenmac, I'll try to post a picture later to day. Been wanting to post some of the tractor to show it off anyway. Just not real computer smart. If I am not mistaken this plate is unique to the 2210BD, maybe other BD models but I do not know. From my understanding it is not on other 2210 models.

My 2000BD has the plate as well, and you have to take it off to change the filter. I just did it today, but this time I unbolted the drain from the plate too and left it hanging while I removed the whole thing( I had to replace the oil press sending unit too).

FL_Jerry, I am a complete idiot when it comes to computers. If you can post a picture it will save me loading my tractor up and taking it to kenmac to post a picture. Do you think this is a structure brace? The metal "case" that holds the radiator has two bolts in the frame that should keep it from moving. I wonder if it has something to do with vibration, keeping everything shaking the same. Oil change is an ordeal.

My 2000B has the same plate. I have always just removed it to change the filter.

I can get a picture, but due to my schedule, it will be a few days.

I've had the radiator off several times working on hyd pump issue. My 2000 also has a rod that goes from the top of the radiator to a large stud on the block.

I can say that at least once I forgot to put the bolt in that holds the brace to the radiator housing and I ended up loosening everything back up to get the brace lined up. Yesterday I changed my oil, and I took the plate off and gave a tug to the radiator assy and didn't detect any change. The other side has no bracing of this sort....

However, it didn't take long to get the plate off. In the past, I fought with the drain, but I popped the two bolts holding it to the plate off. That would be a total of six bolts to remove, which goes fast with a ratchet, they aren't that long. You dont need to remove the two off the drain, so it could be four bolts. In other words, I'd leave it.
