Hello al, have a puzzeling intermittened problem with my 226d I need some suggestions on. It has happened to me 3 times now, that just working with the tractor, driving along the engine just plain quits, as if the throttle is pulled back to cut-off. The engine will start right away with the starter, runs for about 5 seconds and dies again. During these 5 seconds there seems to be limited throttle control, but the engine is running smooth wth no smoke. The first two times this happened after about 10 starts it will start running normal again and there won't be a problem for a week or two. the one time I had to let it sit for a couple of minutes and it acted normal again on the first try. the only thing I noticed is all 3 times it happened within 15 minutes after initial engine start for the day. I'm thinking of a fuel related problem, but haven't touched the fuelsystem since early summer , when I changed filter and cleaned out the fueltank, and this problem didn't start until several months later.
Any suggestions are appreciated
Pete

It's either fuel starvation (most likely) or air starvation less likely. It could be fuel contamination with water a little water gets in and then when it hits the cylinders the engine dies. Check the fuel filter(s). Sometimes there will be a leak around the fuel cap and water will get in when it rains (happens on airplanes). I guess the last thing could be that an injector is partially plugged.

If your fuel cap is vented and it got blocked some how this will cause a vacum in the fuel tank and starve the engine. run with cap loose and see if problem occures. if it does this will rule out vacum in the fuel tank.

this was also my problem
I did everything that you you to clear it up to no avail.
finally I replaced the fuel hose, and that did it.
The fuel hose was starting to break down on me from the inside out and gumming up everything.
Try that its a cheap fix,
Be sure to blead all the lines real good too.

Yes as he says, the lines can be a problem. My thermostart line was leaking, so I took it off and went into Napa, and got a new one. The one I got was a heavy duty one, compaired to the one that was on it. I guess they use light duty ones on them, so it got a hole in it, and it wasn't even a deep wear place. I'm sure the other lines are probably light too. Once you replace them they shound never have another problem.

Thank you all for your response, I'll go and take a close look at the fuellines and make sure that the tank vent is working as it is supposed to.
Will keep you informed on what I find
