I went out today to drag some dirt around and when I went to lift the box scrapper on the 3 pt it wouldn't lift, nothing not even a whine or engine rpm change. Can someone direct me in the right direction on what to check first then on down to try and figure out whats going on. I did a little research and went through the manual but basically it says to check the stop valve and other then that see your yanmar dealer.

Thanks
Bob

I see there is a screen that can be cleaned but where is it located? I havent figured out where its at. Is the tractor fluid one in the same with the hydraulic fluid that checked with the dip stick there in the middle by the shifter. The fluid seems ok I pulled the filter to have a look at it and its clean and has no water in it. I plan on loosening the high pressure side of pump to see if some fluid will flow out of it tomorrow.

What does the lever do that is hooked to the lift arm that ties back into the valve below the seat? I think its called a feed back rod or something like that.

Thanks guys

The hydraulic fluid is shared with the transmission, so the dipstick will tell you the level.

I don't know where the screen is on a 226, but it's probably similar to others. There will be a cover somewhere on the transmission held on by some bolts. When removed, there's a cigar-like screen filter. It should be relatively clean. Your tractor might also have an external filter, that looks like an oil filter.

Unfortunately, if it worked fine, then suddenly quit completely, the key in the pump may have sheared. :(

More knowledgeable people will chime in, hopefully.

Your screen is behind a triangular shaped flange right behind the 4 wheel drive drop box on the left side as you are sitting on the tractor. The feedback rod is just for adjusting how high your lift goes. Should have nothing to do with your problem. Transmission is all one reservoir for hydraulics also, holds right at 4 gallons. I think your check of loosening the high pressure line is a good idea. Your going to have to trouble shoot your way through. If no pressure there your screen is stopped up or pump not pumping. Any history as to how long since the screen was cleaned?

Does your lift lever have normal movement or is it a bit loose. On mine several times the roll pin that connects the lift lever to the element which activates the valve has fallen out and then i get nothing and the lever kind of "flops."

I have no history when it has been cleaned, I have had it for 3 years and obviously never cleaned it, I don't use it much maybe 10 hours a year, bums me too because this machine is my go to always starts and runs machine when all my other junk has to be worked on before I get it running.

Actually the lift lever seems a little stiff to operate, not loose or anything. I will check a few things out and report back.

Thanks guys

ok guys this is what I have found and am pleased to say that I have lift operation now. I loosened the banjo bolt back where it goes into the valve and got fluid and air and kinda thought the fluid looked a little milky but when you pull the dip stick and look at it it doest show this to be the case, but anyway I pulled the screen and what a mess, it had a lot of muck on it say about a 1/16 inch thick. I will tell you though I was very impressed with the quality of this screen/filter set up. Everytime I work on this tractor I always come away thinking what a well built tough tractor it is.

When I purchased this tractor I changed all the fluid and I had just replaced what filters that were on it with what it had which was wix filters which is what I always use anyway but I read somewhere that the hydraulic fluid filter is different. I wonder if the wix filter thats on it is suited for this operation? What do you guys think?

Fluid is draining and I am headed up to the local tractor supply house, Oh wait it is Easter I may have to wait on that till tomorrow.

Thanks guys

There would be nothing wrong with the correct wix filter. Is it a 51203?

alright! I am back up and running! I think the screen was the problem as well as some air in the line? Because when I cracked the banjo nut and let out fluid air also burped out and the the lift kinda started moving because I had forgot to move it to the lowering setting but anyway I changed the fluid and changed the oil and greased everything up so now she is ready for another season.

Thanks a bunch guys!
