2305-utility tractor- won't stay running without attaching jumper cables to it!

When I went to install the voltage regulator, only to learn that there is more than one to choose from for a 2305, I noticed that the connection was horribly corroded. It looked equal to the worst battery connection I have seen in my limited exposure. I cleaned it with a toothbrush and electronics cleaner and continued to mow the lawn. Usually, after mowing the lawn it won't start after I turn it off. This time it did and also started on it's own the next day, yesterday.
I checked the battery with the tractor running and it read 12.2 the same after I turned it off.

Today is the day. I replaced the voltage regulator and the voltage meter is now reading 13.25 while idling.
Finally, success!
