Hopefully these are just little bugs to be worked out of the tractor, but I have noticed my backhoe is leaking oil from the main lever manifold. LOOKS like it is leaking from the bottom of the manifold, they are round fittings with a "rubber" cap or plug on them, they are tight to the body but seems to be weeping from the rubber. Are these relief valves ? It can't be normal, because when I take the backhoe off and use the stabilizers with in an hour or so, there is oil everywhere and it is resting on the ground....

Does not seem right. If under warranty I would contact your dealer now as this likely will get worse with time.

It shouldn't be leaking from the caps. Are you pretty sure that the oil isn't running down from one of the hoses? If it is, it might just be a loose fitting that you could easily tighten. Sometimes, it is hard to tell where oil is coming from. If it isn't from a loose fitting and is under warranty, take it back to the dealer so they can take care of it.

It could be, but it sure looks like it is from the caps. What are those fittings for JerryG ?

Actually I had a similar issue with my BX80 bh on my 1533. I only used it for about 15 hrs or so and then I noticed that my hose sleeves were soaked with oil. Then I noticed the oil puddle under the bh after a days use. Then I finally noticed it was coming from the manifold you are speaking of. I couldn't tighten the cap myself- because as you said they are round. So I called the dealer and they came out and picked up the tractor; fixed it and brought it back.
I imagine i lost alot of fluid though because all of the hose sleeves were SOAKED.

Hi, I had the same problem on my 2310 bh when it was delivered. With the shroud on it did look like it was coming from lower part of manifold by the "rubber capped plugs" or their hose connection. I took off shroud over the manifold and looked carefully for leak...in reality it was a leak from middle of a pressure relief valve (looks like shape of a spark plug) which before I took off dealer said to "snug" it and see if it would stop leak (metric but I believe 7/8" or 15/16" socket was equivelent with a second wrench to hold back base nut of the valve). Tightening did not stop leak so I removed valve and went to dealer and looked up schematic and they ordered a new one. Installed new one and leak was gone! ($158. covered by warranty)

It did take some research and frustration...initial comment from dealer that hydraulics leak, I did not want to take unit in for a simple fix, poor schematic to work from etc...bottom line no matter where it's coming from it should not leak and I'm sure your dealer will fix.

Thanks, I did check all the fittings and they are tight. I will check the relief valves as you mentioned. Normally I would take the unit to my dealer, but for such a potential minor issue, that would be a pain. Hopefully they will replace it under warranty WITHOUT taking my tractor in.

What about my hoses ? With all the hyd. oil on the outside casing, will they be damaged ?? I know oil runs THRU them, but I am just curious....

It fluid won't hurt the hoses in anyway. Some older tractors and heavy equipment will leak all over hoses for years without any damage.

The caps are the covers for where the spools come out of the valve body when you are pulling and pushing them with the joystick.
When the leak is found more than likely it will be a loose hose leaking.

Checked the hose fittings, seemed ok. Will keep looking for the dreaded leak....

If your hoses are tight, and it looks like it is coming from inside that cap, you can remove the black plastic cap & make sure thet is where it's coming from. There is just 2 o-rings that seal against the spool & one is probably leaking. If thats what it is and you're under warranty, Have the dealer look at it. It's a pretty easy fix if you need to but thats what warranty is for.
