Hi all-Phil D. here, again, to tap the brain trust. I really do appreciate all the thoughts on the 2320 posted a couple of weeks ago. I'm sloooowly moving forward-trying to justify the expense of a new machine which I desperately need but can barely afford.

So I see many more used 2520's out there and am wondering how much larger is the 2520 than the 2320 both in weight and hp? The only thing I hear about is the decreased FEL raise and dump time with the 2520.

My real question is: I'm considering a new 2320 with FEL, 62"mmm and 54" front snow plow. The plow seems small in comparison to other after-market units I see on the 'net. Will I be sorry with this size plow? I'm in NW Connecticut. We get snow and every year varies but it's usually 7-12 storms with anywhere from a dusting to a foot. Every few years we get a real nor'easter with 2-3'. Appreciate the thoughts....Phil D

Phil, I don't recall the layout of where you propose to use the tractor. From my experience with 22 hp Honda and 60" power angle front blade, I'd say the 2320 will do the job for you most of the time. As you know there is snow and there is snow. For times when the blade will not handle or piles need to be moved back - use the FEL. There are always loaded tires and chains, however, I suspect even with the 2320 if the snow is deep enough and low range is selected traction will run out before horsepower.

Will a 2520 / 2720 / 3x20 / 4x20 do the job faster and let you use larger blades / buckets? - probably. Match your budget with the tool that will perform the majority of your mission critical jobs in a reasonable time.

The 2520 is about 6" longer (almost all of this is in the wheelbase) and about 180 pounds heavier. Most of the weight difference is the heavier direct injected diesel (v. indirect) and the tires and wheels, which are larger. The frame is a bit longer but not appreciably heavier built. The 54" front blade for any of these machines is sad. I do not have one in my current 2320 application but have had one before with a 595 x series I used to own. Great little blade but too small for these tractors. The real issue is that when angled the blade will not cover the rear tire tracks. Any of the 2000 series machines could handle a 60" blade for any application and a 72" blade for snow. These machines plow well, as they are relatively heavy, but chains are a must. While these machines do not require chains if the terrain is not challenging they can push a lot more with them. R4 tires are terrible in snow in any application.

As for the speed, I have mentioned (and I mean this) that the 2520 and 2720 are NO faster than a 2320 in ground engagement tasks. They are faster in two main applications: 1. Loader work which involves the need for quick cycle times and 2. PTO work such a brushhogging where the higher HP machines can handle generally a foot larger rear cutter or mower (bear in mind the 2320 has only 18 hp at the PTO v. 20.5 in the 2520 and about 23 in the 2720). As for box blading, snow removal, etc., I am not sure the 2320 is not BETTER than those machines, as I feel JD has really hit the sweet spot on gearing with this little tractor. I know for a fact that my 2320 box blades my steep, slick driveway QUICKER than my 3720 did with a 48" box blade (v. a 60") because it is so easy to maneuver.

Phil, I've got a 2305 that I have the 62'' deck a 47'' front blower and I bought the 54'' front plow just for certain weather conditions and for back up in case my blower had problems. Wasn't happy at all with the size so I had a piece of 1/4'' plate 72'' rolled to my blades contour and bolted it to it. Also I added a third spring in between the other two. Works great and my tractor handles it just find, any wider than when it's turned to the left it might hit the ground because of how the front mount is on the tractor. Hope this helps.

This is great info. Thanks! Is there an after market plow that can be fit to the 2320 which is wider rather than adding onto the 54" blade?

Hello John M
I was curious,so I had to do some checking.:)

2320:
Forward - Range High 0-18.2 km/h (0-11.3 mph)

Reverse - Range High 0-9.1 km/h (0-5.7 mph)

Forward and Reverse - Range Low 0-7.3 km/h (0-4.5 mph)

2520:
Forward and Reverse - Range High 0-20.9 km/h (0-13.0 mph)

Forward and Reverse - Range Low 0-7.2 km/h (0-4.5 mph)

2720:
Forward and Reverse - Range High 0-21.8 km/h (0-13.5 mph)

Forward and Reverse - Range Low 0-7.5 km/h (0-4.7 mph)

I'm thinking they are all geared the same, and the different tire sizes are making the difference. Then again,I don't understand the high range reverse speed of the 2320. Other than that spec.,they are pretty darn similar:) Now,keep in mind, this is right from the manuals, and we know how they always state the right facts:confused2:

Thanks for the replies. Any more info. on other snow plows that might be wider for the 2320?

Kubota has a 60'' front blade for their BXs. . Any chance one of them could be made to fit?

If this is the one you are referring to,that is exactly what I'm doing with my 2520:)

And what exactly are you doing? Do you need to buy the JD front bracket to mount it and then retro fit the plow??
