Hey guys,

Im in the middle of do my 50hr service on my new 2320 and have some questions.

1. I received a filter pack with the tractor and it does not contain the orange hydro filter under the brake pedals. Did i receive the wrong filter pack or is that normally not included?

2. The picture in my manual shows nothing even close to the filter that i removed from behind the right three point arm. I dont see these magnets they speak of and the filter pack has a "open element" filter in it that appears to be a replacement for the one i took out except it doesnt have the fine metal screen over it.

3. There are shavings on that filter probably an inch long if you uncoiled them. Is this normal and it what quantity?

Thanks in advance

1) I dont think the transmission/hydraulic filter (underneath the step - cost is about $30ish) is included in the filter pack (from what one of the guys at the dealership said).. I went to the dealership to order one and they looked it up and got it in for me.. BUT when i got home the filter number for what I got was different than what was in the manual... The manual filter was cross referenced to another filter, and when they got one in, it was made to go inside a house (like a fuel filter).. The first filter I got was the correct one.. The new filter was black but still a donaldson..

2) my magnets were INSIDE the metal filter and they were all clumped together.. I had a hard time getting them out of the filter body.. When i put them back in I tried to space them evenly around the inside of the filter..

3) Some shaving is normal.. Someone else will have to answer how normal is normal though..

BTW - I overfilled mine (ie running out of the fill hole) when i refilled it because I filled it, Ran the engine, filled some more, ran the engine and the fluid never showed in the sight glass.. I think either i didnt run the engine at a high enough rpm OR i should have turned on the rear pto (as soon as i turned the pto on the sight glass filled up)..

Good luck

Brian

I did not order the filter pack because my dealer said it did Not have all the filters the 2320 needs at 50 hrs. Don't know if almost inch long shavings are normal but mine had them to. It is now approaching the 200 hr mark and still going strong so I guess it was okay. The directions for the 50 hr change out leave a whole lot to be desired. As thatguy said it is easy to overfill. Cycle the hydraulics (PTO or FEL) so the fluid flows through the entire system and it is a bit easier to fill.

Here are two pictures showing what greeted me when I did my first hydraulic oil change. Make sure you clean out the oil sump. I found a lot of shavings in there. If you do clean the sump, just make sure you don't leave any lint behind or any other contaminants.

I can agree with everything thatguy said with the exception of one small little thing. I saw oil in my sight glass right away as I was filling.

BigD9, Thanks for the pics, that is pretty much exactly what I found in mine. Does anyone know if you have to space the magnets out or if you can put them back in stuck together. When I tore it apart they were all together so that is how I put them back in. Also does it matter if they are at the top or bottom in relation to the filter when it is reinstalled?
thanks again guys

My personal opinion is it does not matter at all, however that said I did space them around the filter housing. Also those magnet bars are fragile and break when striking a concrete floor after slipping from someones fumble fingers. :(Enough said.

I just completed the 50 hour service on my 2320 at 66 hours. I was surprised by the amount of filings in the sump and on the screen but reading on TBN I knew what to expect. What I never expected was to see all four magnets stuck together inside the screen filter. I know there is lots of fluid moving through there and after all they are magnets but I thought they might stay in place (seperated) to collect more metal. I installed them spaced evenly around the inside of the filter.

The engine oil change went very easy other than trying to refill the oil with the FEL attached, maybe next time I will take the FEL off to make things a little easier to work around.

The tranny fluid change took much longer because the 3 point has to be partly removed and I couldn't get the rod out that holds the sway control links in place. The rod hit the rim before it was out far enough to remove the sway linkage. Then I removed the right bushing and was able to get things apart that way. The manual shows pictures but not for the 2320, the back end of the tranny looks totally different than my 2320. The filter cover on mine has 4 bolts and a spring holding the filter in place. I am not sure what the picture is from in the manual but it sure isn't this 2320 I have. Once everything was cleaned out for teh tranny fluid I put in 10 litres but still need to add a little more because I saw nothing in the site glass after running at idle for a few minutes and waiting about 10 minutes after shutting it down. I will check it and add what I will need before using it.

Also I found both the drain plugs but the one is useless if you drain the lower one first. It would make more sense to have a drain plug on the bottom of the sump, there was lots of fluid in there when I took off the filter cover.

I also learned my lesson with leaving the loader on. I spoke with a very good friend of mine who is a JD tech on the larger ag tractors. He said the magnets being clumped together should not be an issue.

Thanks to everyone that replied
