Snow 2320 with snow build-up

I am having a problem with my snowblower, and am wondering if others are having the same problem, and if they have any solutions to it. When ever I go out and blow snow with my 2320 the 47" front mount blower works fine (although I think it is very noisy when you raise it up) but the quick attach area always seems to fill up with snow then turns to ice. Its gets so bad that you have to clean that area each and every time you use it. All the snow is collected like a catch basin in the quick attach frame. As the snow melts it turns to ice and get very noisy whenever you raise the blower. If you stop and clean it all out....it sounds alot better. I have been thinking of making some type of cover either with some rubber roof material I have hanging around or some type of cover I can attach to the top of the quick attach frame. The noise from this blower drives me crazy..after looking at its design I am thinking of fabricating a new front drive shaft, by using either a cv joint from a 4 wheeler or small car like a subaru. I don't have time right now for this, but I think this would eliminate all the noise whenever the snowblower is raised up. The other drive shaft that connects the mid mount pto to the front never changes its angle....Am I crazy or did John Deere do a poor job of engineering this. My old John Deere x485 was whisper quite when it ran. I am interested in hearing if any one else has these same problems and what their remedys are, so I don't reinvent the wheel.

I've never had build-up in the quiktatch area, but then again mine lives in a heated garage, so I'm sure that has something to do with it as well.

Mine seems to unload a lot of snow on the hitch when the chute deflector isn't all the way up. I was thinking of making a rubber seal to stop it.

I changed the U joint on the mid pto on my 2210 to a cv joint to fix a vibration. I used a joint from a dodge colt. Another member GBourk used one out of a honda I believe.

I will change the one on the front shaft before next season.

I believe the 2320 is set up different than the 2210 (may be wrong) the mid mount pto shaft that attaches to the front bracket is stationary and never moves

and only the short shaft that connects the snowblower to the hanging bracket actually flexes when you lift the blower.....I guess I have to take a closer look....but can't since I have to be in the operators seat to make it work..If some of you can figure it out...let me know

The 2210 mid shaft is stationary as well but has an excessive angle where it goes under the front axle causing the U joint to bind and the shaft to run out of concentric creating a vibration. The front shaft is another vibration point when changing the angle by raising and lowering the blower.

Also, your snow build up could be caused by backing through un-plowed snow or dragging the blower in reverse.
The 2210 and 2305 are lower machines and the draw bar levels the snow before it can build up on the front hitch when you back up.

Mine is a 2320 but if I am hearing you correctly, I should redesign the mid mount shaft by installing a cv Joint instead of the universal joint that is there. Do you think I also need to put a pillow block to support that shaft? And am I also hearing that while I am at it I might as well change the snowblower front shaft to a cv joint also? any sugestions to where I can buy these cv joints online or what to use....I am not real familiar with these. Are they real easy to take apart (assuming it has to come apart to me machined or modified) Thanks for any help you can give me...I'm sure there ar others who have this same problem. I'm just a little more fussy

Sorry Dale but I don't have excessive noise or snow build up. Mine camps out in our large unheated garage and I use a broom to clean off the blower, augers, chute, etc. after every use. But, I rarely have anything to clean off the quick hitch. As for noise, it gets louder as its raised, but it has to be raised almost all the way up to be noticable, and I don't have a cab either. First thing to check is the phasing of the u joints between the mid and front drive shafts. This will make a significant difference in the noise.

I wouldn't think you would have to change the u joint on the mid shaft because the shaft isn't at the same angle under the front axle like the 2210 and 2305.

I can get some pics for you of the cv joint setup that I did. You would have to hire a machine shop to do the machining and some welding. I bought a remanufactured driveshaft for a dodge colt and used the outer cv joint. The reason I used one from a compact car was because of the smaller diameter would allow for the limited space on the tractor.

Replacing the u joint with a cv joint on the front shaft will definitely help the noise issue. The constant changing of the angle of the shaft from raising and lowering the blower along with the 2100rpm that it runs at allows you to get into the frequency that makes that resonance noise you hear.

I would rather have a noisy driveshaft than a belt to deal with though.

I did check on the phasing of the joints they are all correct. I was also thinking about using a cv joint from a 4 wheeler? What do you think? It is noisy when I raise the blower and operate it above 2000rpm, I would appreciate any pictures you can send my way or information that I can use. I believe the shaft that connects the mid-mount pto would be all right the way it is set up. I believe all my noise is from the shaft that connects the snowblower to the mid mount. thanks for all your help.
