Packing down and not removing the first few inches (at least) of snowfall saves so much trouble on a gravel surface.

Wish I lived where the weather was consistently cold for the practice to be effective. Last 10 years or so it seems many snowfalls are interceded with warmth or rain therefore creating a huge slush mesh if anything is left on the road.
