Hi all,

I am looking to buy another trailer again. This time it will be an enclosed contractor style trailer. I am looking for 12000# GVW minimum(14K GVW is better), 2 axle, with payload in the 8000# range. Anyone use or one anything close and what are likes, dislikes, and pratfalls?

If I can find the right one, I am thinking of phasing out my fleet of GMC 7000 24' box trucks as maintenance, licensing, etc is getting more costly every year.

I have a halmark 24' box trailer w/2 5k axles. Its been a good trailer. bought it new 2000. Halmark makes different levels of trailers. i bought mine with a flat alum roof. the ceiling insulated. and with finished walls. i also put in two roof vents, 4 dome lights with a switch front and back. Make sure you get a 4' side door. also if i could do it over again i would i would get it with a higher ceiling. you can also get it prewired for an ac or generator. i think an extended tong would be nice so you could mount a generator there.
hope that helps and good luck.

oh ya i bought mine from American Trailer sales in indiana. you can google them. any way they beat my dealer by 2000 dollars. i drove to the Georgia plant and picked it up.

just thought of something, i don't know what you do in your business but the one bad thing about using a box trailer that big is if you are doing work in a small subdivision, dead end street or even some downtown side streets. they can be a bear to turn around and back up as you can't see over it and there always seem to be a blind spot. any way just thought i'd bring that up.

Maybe not the larger ones but smaller enclosed trailers or stolen daily. My Bro has had three stolen. Locking the wheels along with the tongue doesn't help. They just drag them onto a rollback. Also there is no good way to secure the contents. There is no lock made that a whiz wheel can't cut through. And if that isn't enough a cordless power saw will cut right through the side. Best security is the location!

Heck i worry about my boat trailer, empty at the ramp locked with a master lock on my truck. I even worry about my trailers in my yard in my small town, trailers are easy to steal period, it makes it worse if there is something on them like a boat or thousands of dollars worth of tools which are all but immpossible to trace!

Well I take the risk of theft everyday with trailer or box van, bad people do bad things.
