My Kats 11407 block heater has failed for the second time in 7 years of ownership approx 650 hrs on the clock. Is anyone else experiencing these failures? First unit solder joint failed on one of the pins. This unit heating element must have burnt out since get infinite ohms across the pins.

Will look closer at water jacket depth surrounding this element when install the new one to see if heating element is close to block at some point and could cause a hot spot.

I lost one at 2 years of service.

I've been told not to run the engine with the heater plugged in. Not sure if it's hogwash or not, but I stopped doing it after the second one was put in.
