I stopped by my dealer the other day because I was in need of 50 hour service filters. The dealer that I purchased from was not the closest to me- about 50 miles away vs. another one about 22 miles away. However, they gave me the best deal and the service was better. I dont make it down that way very often but an unexpected delivery for work just so happened to bring me to that area just in time for 50 hour service. We went through the computer and picked out the filters and he went to the stock room. A few minutes later he returned and stated that everything was a mess down there and he couldnt find anything; this worried me a little. I told him that was fine and he could mail them to me, I don't need them today anyway. So, after calling, on monday he shipped them and I got them on tuesday. I opened the invoice and it said, "here are the filters for your 1815". I own a 2415, a question he asked me when I was at the dealer. I know they are a very similiarly built tractor so I thought there was a chance they share the same filter. So I measured each one and compared the measurements to the one on my tractor. They were all different in diameter and height. So I called him and asked him why he sent me filters for a an 1815 not a 2415. He replied that they are all the same and there are a few different filters that can be used and the ones they stock must be slightly different.
So, whats the real story? Do the 1815HST and 2415HST share the same filters? Is it possible to use a filter with different dimensions? A different height seems ok, but a filter with a different diameter is interchangable? The diameter wasnt much different maybe 3/16", but it sounds suspicious? Can you dealers help me with the facts?
BTW - This is the first time ive spent $40 for a filter and it was a little painful.
