245 Fluid "leak"

245 Fluid \"leak\"

While cutting with my L245 today I started to have fluid comout out from my gearshift lever.

I just had it serviced and wondering if it is just overfilled of is this something I need to be concerned about?

I had that problem without a service. If yours was OK before, possibly it is overful.

But the cause appears to be pressure build-up in the transmission. There is a breather tube under the seat (A little s shaped pipe).

Unscrew it from the transmission and clean it out. Mine was full of hornet's mud.

This should fix the problem.

Hey maybe your transmission is now at the correct level and was under-ful before?

I am sure this will fix your problem.

On my L345 (similar vintage) there was always a small amount of oil that came out around the shifter during long periods of steady running - like mowing. Don't believe that tractor had a vent. The oil just gets thrown around in the gearbox and some goes up and splashes around the shifter - was never a problem except the small mess it makes. The oil level on these rigs is NOT that critical - an inch one way or the other doesn't have much effect. My 2 cents from a lot of years.

L345 also had a vent.

That was it. I thought that was some kind of "solid" metal hook. Took a peice of wire and cleaned her out!

I found that out on TBN too.

What a wealth of info we have here.

Handy as the guy down the road thinks he is a tractor guru and when I showed him how to fix the "leak" on his L245 I think I cut him down a notch.
