On my recently arrived 2520 I find that it is rather notchy going from N to either H or L, sometimes requiring playing with the forward and reverse pedal to get the gear selector to click into position. Is this normal? I would have thought that slip into gear should be the norm as opposed to give a good push and click into gear after some fiddling.
Here's a pic, http://farm1.static.flickr.com/212/479150784_c856c6eab1_b.jpg

Thanks, Carson

I sure hope it's normal, mine has the same behavior. It's become second nature to get it in gear, so it doesn't bother me much.

Yes it is normal. you haft to let the gears mesh.
all of them do that..;)

They're all straight-cut gears in the tranny, so you need to get them lined up. You're best by using very light pressure on the gear selector, and also just touching the pedals.

I used to have a 755 and didn't have to put it in N every time I got off the seat with it running, just set the parking brake. I suppose its a good safety feature on my 2520, but kind of a PITA. A couple times on the 2520 I've got on, released the parking brake, haven't touched the hydro pedals and just start rolling! Dummy me, I forget to put it back in gear! Like I said, to me still used to the 755 its a PITA.

Anyway, I've found that if on level ground, I just turn the steering a little to the left or right while shifting out of N and it moves things just enough to mesh the gears.

I jumpered the seat switch on my 2520, so I can let it in gear and get off of it. I know its not as SAFE, but its my way!

I will most likly do the same. i am not the tallest guy in the world. and when you are trying to ease pallet forks under something i always stand up. and it kills the engine. drives me crazy...

Is there some law which makes it mandatory that tractors be equipped with an operator presence switch? I can understand why mowers are equipped with it and I can understand if a mower is running on a tractor, that it would be safer, but like Chris said, there are times when I would like to stand up to be able to view something better and I can't do it. I was thinking about jumpering around it as well. I understand the implications, but let's face it, when you're working around equipment like this, there's lots of ways to get hurt if you're not thinking.

There are more laws than you could shake a stick at, but I think this has to do with the manufacturer's liability and not wanting to get sued by stupid people. I think it's more the fault of the legal system than anything else.
