Newbie here and first time poster. Been lurking for months and I have to say, this is one of the best sites out there. Very informative and nice people.
I’ve pretty much decided on the JD 2320 with FEL and 54D mmm. Here is my question: Can anyone tell me the total length of a 2520 with FEL? Since no dealers around here yet have the 2320 and are out of stock on the 2520, I thought I’d check with those who have the 2520 w/FEL. There is about a .3 inch difference between the two tractors (2320 being slightly longer). Also, how much length does the ballast box add? I have a pretty tight garage and am hoping it won’t be a problem keeping the new toy under cover. Otherwise, I'll have to talk the finance dept into letting me build a barn..
It comfortably fits the 2520 with FEL and tiller with enough room for my wife's gardening table (probably about 30" wide). Just remember to put the ROPS down when pulling in.
While not as nice as a barn it'll tide me over for now.
Thanks JD. That thing is pretty cool. And not too expensive. If the 2320 fits in the garage, then that will come in handy for the growing list of attachments.
BTW, how you liking your 2520? I'm jealous on the BH. Not in the budget yet
It's fantastic. I'm hoping to build a more formal garage/workshop for the tractor and a toolshop, but until then the accessories are in the tent-garage or under a tarp.
So far I've had no issues pulling old fences out of the ground, tilling up my wife's new garden, chipping an endless pile of branches with a PTO chipper, and mowing. The learning curve was very easy, I went from a cheap Snapper rider I used 10 years ago to hooking up three point attachments in no time. Like a lot of people the only thing I wish I had done is have a bit more confidence in my skills when looking at the 3720 I *really* wanted .
JD... What kind of brush/branches can the DR chipper handle? How big? That may be an attachment I would like to get. I have several acres with lots of small stuff to get rid of. What is the price range for them?
Sounds like you are set up well with the impliments. I was (possibly still am) looking at the 2305 which looks like a great machine. But my land is kind of rough and if I want to venture into the woods a bit I think I'll need the extra 5 inches or so of ground clearence. I'm sure if I get the 2320, I'll be glad I have the extra capacity. It seems a little big for what I need, but I'll grow into it.
The DR handles up to about 4". I've found that using a Dewalt reciprocating saw (18V, I'm trying hard not to upgrade to the new 36V!) I can strip the branches off just about anything fairly well. Then I just need to stack the bigger stuff for the chain saw. I got the chipper/shredder but I've found that I never use the shredder part - I probably could have saved a bit of money with just the chipper. Any small stuff like vines and tomato plants I'd probably compost for a year or so and then till into the ground. Besides, a top ejecting model allows for a longer chipping session without having to take a break to scoop the woodchips from under the chipper.
I too have rough ground and woods on a lot of the property. The ground clearance comes in handy - I was even able to tentatively use my 62D mower in the highest position for what a rotary mower should be used for (tall grass with some odd deep trenches scattered throughout). I'm not sure I can justify a rotary since I intend to add fill and grade the land eventually.
