I have been reading some different posts on roatary mowers ( LX vs. MX ) and LX vs Bush Hog & Woods etc. Thought I had made my mind up on the LX until I read a post of someone mentioning hit one rock or hit a tree or post and it would dent the side in etc. They sugested looking at the MX or go to one of the others and drop the LX.

Here comes the questions:
1. Will the 2520 even handle the MX5?
2. Is the LX just fine and I’m making to much of the comment ?

I will mostly use to maintain wooded property keeping brush down and mowing food plots etc. I don’t intend on mowing and stones or takin on any tree with it, but would hate to think that the first stone that jumped out the ground would put some huge dent in the side of the mower. I like to keep my equipment as good looking as the day that it was delivered.

deere.com reports that the only compatible rotary cutters for the 2520 are the LX4 and LX5.
The LX5 specs out at 490 lbs
The MX5 specs out at 728 lbs

Since the lift capacity of the 3 point hitch on the 2520 is just over 1400 lbs, I am unclear why they don't include the MX5 in the compatibility list. Maybe it's all that weight levered out so far...

Hi bajacrazy,

I think the issue is PTO horsepower... takes 25 for the MX-5 to live up to it's rating for brush size...

You could probably turn it to an extent (do you have loadmatch?), but maybe not be able to cut through as much... I wanted an MX-6 (and wish I'd gone for it) but that called for 30 hp at the PTO... my dealer advised against it.

And yes, the LX metal is noticeably thinner than the MX, and will get beat up faster--but a bushhog is not an implement you'll have much success keeping like factory no matter what. You can stave off rust, but they are implements for shredding and pulverizing vegetation, and will dent & ding & scrape.

Did you ask your dealer?

Just check out the deck & side thicknesses/gauges of cutters your PTO can turn & go with the heaviest one that appeals to you, IMO.

Good Luck!
