I have the same problem with my 2720 which I did purchase the parts to fix it but I need to get in the brain set before starting the project. I should have mentioned this to my dealer when it was new but I thought I was doing something wrong

I have a 2720 also but thus far have not experienced it jumping out of 4WD. What are the parts that you ordered? Is it something that wears or is it a known problem with an update?

I have the same problem with my 2720 (205 hours), but it only does it (that I've noticed) when going down hill backwards.

It’s been a known problem with a weak spring
I have another post about it but couldn’t find anyone who fixed it themselves.
I’m planning on doing the repair this winter when my work slows down.
The parts are under $25 not counting hydraulic fluid if I don’t need anything else. IMG_1960.JPG
Parts number 7&8 plus I have the seal also I’m thinking number 1

This is a known problem and John Deere is not fixing this on their dime? So much for the great mighty Green customer service.

My 4520 Power Reverser type had a problem of not releasing from 4whl.drive. returned under warranty and the mechanic said the slipper shoe had been mis-aligned in collar of the transmission. but then had a shaft seal leaking hydraulic fluid
about a gallon a day just sitting. returned for repair. then the 4whl.shift lever had to much travel and some times would not dis engage. but now out of warranty . the repair parts + shop time @ then $90.00 each for 2 men usually 2 8 hour days to fix.
decided to fix myself .Book tells how to remove everything that has a bolt attached to tractor transmission housing. starting with the seat. then down to floor pan including the fenders. Hydraulic piping, fuel tank, steering wheel sensor wiring . looking at the area needing to work did remove the right fender. floor pan and attached parts like pedals . hydraulic filter and return tube into transmission. the 10 bolts attaching the transmission is typical to any tractor being separated the front from rear 1/2 saw the part #11 called a shifter shoe laying on bottom of the housing and pin to holding in place was worn from doing the shifting into and out of 4whl. drive. (so much for the superior repair of a dealer ship) cost of replacement parts was #11 $50 bucks and gasket $50 bucks Hydraulic filter $60 bucks and 10 gallon of fluid with tax close to $180 and all I was thinking thanks JD for the warranty fix they had goofed on.
Remembered the Gravely tractor of late 40's with same method of shifting except exposed and could be repaired by removing 2 bolts . went to my neighbor still using his gravely L an compared the #11 part it is almost identical in size thickness and length. So the neighbor explained the procedure . the transmission shaft with shifter collar holding part #11 when engaged connects to output shaft and since it is over center should never slip out of desired position.
the ball and spring simply holds the collar in disconnected position so doesn't grind against the output shaft when not used.

This sounded reasonable and of course he was using words like. the slipper shaft from transmission holding the shifting collar with shifter shoe sliding over the output shifted shaft to 4whl drive shaft. design has not changed in past 70 years or from steam engine days. Wonder why John Deere has a problem with it. I have to agree with him .

I'm almost ready to split my tractor but I'm wondering if the 2032r is the same and same part numbers.
Anyone with the parts breakdown and numbers here?
