My Son-In-Law just called me to ask about my impressions of a 2520 Tractor with 200CX loader.

I have read good things about these tractors and I believe this could be a good tractor for him. However, I have never sat in the seat on one and frankly don't know much about this model. As he would like to borrow some of my implements (I have a 3320)....I am concerned if the 2520 has the same size 3 point as mine???

In other words....is the 2520 more "sub-CUT" size or is it similar to my tractor?

He would have a little less PTO HP - but I think he could get along with using a few of my 3 point tools from time to time IF everything works out right. I'm trying to come up to speed kinda quick here....as the unit he's looking at wont be around long. What say you? Advice?

My 2 weeks of ownership tell me he should buy it..IMO the 2520 is the smallest real tractor John Deere offers.. Being the cast center section type of tractor.

Significantly smaller frame/weight difference between the two machines. My doc friend has a 2520 and needed a rototiller for his garden/cold tunnel.

I had a JD 660 tiller (5') that worked great on my JD 970. I knew it was gonna be on the "ragged edge" of capability for his tractor but let him borrow it, anyway. He said it was a wild, wild ride for his machine!! Threw him and the tractor all over the yard!

IMO - the 660 would work great behind your 3320. Not so well on the 2520...

The 2520 is ideally a 4' attachment platform. Some attachments @ 5' - finish mower, rear blade, landscape rake, etc.

Your 3320 is a 5' attachment platform with some attachments @ 6'. Could likely use a 7' landscape rake... etc.

This is kinda what my recollection of the tractor difference are too....and the reason for my concern. Although he would have his own rotary cutter - I can see him wanting to use some my implements on occasion. Maybe for low-use requirements he will "get along".

He did find a pretty fair price and it has lots of the right whistles and bells for his needs.

I run a 72 inch RFM and a 60 inch brush hog with my 2520 and it handles them fine for my use. If I were buying right now, I'd go for the 2720, just to have a little more on the PTO for good measure (this would be especially appreciated when operating my Wallenstein BX42 chipper...).

I also use a 60 inch box blade and 46 backhoe and haven't had any problems with it handling them.

So....I finally got some pics and some description of the 2520 in question.

It appears that the tractor has Power Beyond and two sets of remotes installed on the back. Looks like somebody knows what they are doing here.

The category 1 on this size tractor continues to plague me with a question. Somehow I was led to beleive that the 3 point dimensions on these tractors are smaller (like some SUB-CUT's). True or false?

I sure would like him to be able to fit my 3 point implements to his tractor for his occasional needs.

i had a 2520 and ended up upgrading to a 3320.

Using all of the same implements, the 2520 actually ran my 72" finish mower better. the 3320 bogs down when the 2520 woulda kept right on going....

but everything else works just fine.

I see that one has the old style lower link arms.
Doesn't seem to be any evidence of rubbing though.

As for the 3PT,I'm pretty sure they are the same. If you both had the I-Match,then you would be GTG for sure.

If you put an iMatch 3pt quick hitch on your 3320 and 2520 and you will then iMatch and be able to quickly change and share your 3pt implements with ease. :D

There are two caveats I can think of:

1) The 3320 iMatch may sit slightly (inches) farther back and therefore require a slightly longer PTO shaft length then the same implement mounted on the 2520. Just check that the implement PTO shaft is able to compensate for this minor difference between the two w/o binding.

2) The 3320 can handle much larger implements due to its increased size, weight, engine and PTO HP ratings. Make sure the implement is a good choice for the 2520.

Yeah....I don't see any stabilizer arms on this one? ....which has me concerned.

I have PAT's.....so maybe I have to give him a little sell-job on Pat's. :D:thumbsup: (I wish I could get I-match to work for me.....and I tried, but too many "funny-sized" old implements to get 'em all lined up. And I like my Pat's)
