2007 JD 2520
Hopefully this thread adds to the discussion and benefits others in regards to additional hydraulics on the 2520. I want to thank Kennyd for his posts and help on this project as well as jimgerken and his excellent post on adding rear remotes. I utilized the JD Power Beyond kit which has been detailed before - the only thing I want to add/clarify is that from the back of the tractor the rear most port is pressurerized flow from the pump and needs to go into the valve at IN and the port toward the front is the return to tank which is coming from OUT on the valve (see pic rear hydraulic hoses below) I used this valve Surplus Center Item Detail
and designed a mount with my neighbor - bolting it on using two of the ROPS bolts (make sure they thread all the way through the fixed nuts on the underside of the fender!) I mounted the valve and then the fun began - trying to get the right fittings to connect the hoses from power beyond and the quick connects for the work ports on the valve. I found the document below discussing thread sizing helpful (see threadprofiles.pdf below). I utilized pioneer 1/4in quick connects (female) on the valve x4 with dust covers. Primed and painted after testing for leaks and there you have it. Just waiting for cylinders for TnT and should be good to go. Also considering running lines up to a grapple. Feel free to ask questions and if I can't help then I am sure Kenny or Jim will jump right in.

Cheers,
Brad

Nice looking job Brad!:D

Real nice Job ! looks real professional and yes I would love to have a TnT or grapple capability - Do you have a backhoe and which ports would it connect to now? does it interfere?

again real nice work !

Very nice indeed.

Your valve looks smaller than the one jdbower used. His was the Prince 2-spool valve (part number RD522GCGA5A4B1).
Any specific reason you chose this valve? I would like to do the same thing.
Will any of this interfere with the installation of a backhoe? I'm in the process of installing the powerbeyond kit now.
The bh will have to come next year..

I like that nice big toolbox. I need one. :)

Thanks for the write up and pictures...

Great Job Brad. :) You will be able to get alot done with that
set up. I plan on doing the same thing. I need to get of my back side
and get it done. Kenny has already gave me detail instructions on what i need to do. I just need to find time to do it....;)

Thanks guys:
Duc - I thought about the backhoe question or use of the straight power beyond - with this set up I would disconnect the power beyond to the valve and attach to the back hoe or other log splitter if that is what was required. You could run it so you wouldn't have to disconnect but I didn't at this point b/c I don't need the straight power beyond. Skip - I have bolted the tool box support bracket and the support for the valve so they can be moved / modified etc if necessary down the road. The backhoe would require the removal of the tool box but I believe the valve would be out of the way - maybe not. I chose the valve b/c it had the capacity I needed (5gpm) and I felt two remotes was enough. kennyd recommended it in his post so I knew it would be good. Also, I had a tight space to work in - wanted the operation of the tractor to stay the same and wanted to be able to run the power beyond up behind the seat to the valve behind the toolbox. I didn't need other features from the valve. I would be happy to help you with your install just as others have helped me. Just let me know if you have questions.
Chris - get to work buddy! I can't wait to see your install I'm sure it will be great. Which valve are you using?

Cheers,
Brad

I suppose i will use the same one you and Kenny are useing it seems
work well for yall , I have even less space to deal with , than you guys
do....:( remember i got a backhoe seat to work around.....
But i will get it on there some how...;)

Thanks for the quick reply Kenny. :)
I'm new with the hydraulic business.
I was a bit concerned because I didn't see it stated that it was a flow through valve.
I suppose that was the adjustable relief controls?

Single lever would be cool to be different....
Weighs 7lbs..

Yeah, it's doesn't say it's a Open Center valve, I just assumed it was. Might want to check with the manufacturer to confirm this...

It say in the specs that it has an adjustable relief set a 2000 PSI.

Will the placement of this valve hinder installing a backhoe?

Not sure b/c don't have a hoe - What I did was mounted in a way that the valve could be moved at a later date if necessary. I didn't weld anything to the tractor - used bolts already available. Maybe Chris could take some detailed pics of his backhoe seat and let you know what kind of space you are looking at for mounting options. Also, check the range of movement of your arm necessary to use the loader and the 3pt hitch without interfering with your install.

Cheers,
Brad

A smaller valve like that may be able to be fitted to the rear with the backhoe attached. You can also mount the valve in one location but extend the QCs to the rear. If you've got a welder and you're willing to drill holes it's pretty easy to find a mounting location that will work with the backhoe, just install the BH before you do the rough-in.

I was reading more about these valves and I found 2 that appear identical.
The price is the same but one has regeneration and one doesn't.

What is regeneration on a hydraulic valve?

Thanks

Terry~!

Specs look good - I think you will want spring centering spools which is what my valve has and you have to have open center so the fluid flows through the valve back to the tank when not being used.

Regeneration on this valve is the same as the one on the 2520 DSCV. The function with the regen uses the oil that would go to "tank" and send this back to the "pressure" side of the valve to give a faster cycle time for that function.

Terry -
I copied this from another post to keep in my files b/c I need to review it from time to time. Credit is due to Kubmech for posting - he did a great job!

Regenerative Circuits Explained

The 3 position valve and the 4 position valve, both have what is known as a regenerative circuit built into the bucket dump circuit.

First let me explain what "regen" is and why.

When dumping a loaded bucket (with a good old fashioned loader control valve) the weight of the material in the bucket tends to pull the cylinders down faster than the hyd. fluid can fill the other side of the bucket cylinders. Therefore, an air pocket will develop in the cylinder causing the bucket to be a little "floppy" unless held against relief for a few seconds at the end of the dump cycle. Which creates an extra step if you want to back-drag, etc.

To solve this problem we now add a regenerative (regen) circuit into the dump function of the loader control valve.

What is "regen"? The dump function of the loader control valve applies hyd. "power" to both sides of the bucket cylinders at the same time. But Kubmech, how the heck is that going to work? Wont the cylinder just lock up and not move? No, because on one side of the cylinder the rod itself takes up space, decreasing the volume of the cylinder, on the other side of the cylinder piston there is, no rod, creating more volume. PSI=pounds per square inch, the more volume the more square inches to apply pounds, get it? O.K. so the back side of the cylinder overcomes the front side of the cyl. due to more volume and at the same time does not allow an air pocket to develop becuase of the added resistence of "hyd. power" to the front side of the cyl. allowing the cylinder to "stay tight" for subsequent operations. And as an added bonus it tends to dump faster due to the higher amount of flow/pressure to perform this operation. (Hence the "fast dump" mode the salesmen love to tell you about) In actuality the "fast dump"
mode is just derivative of the regen circuit.

Soooo..... What's the difference between 3-pos. and 4-pos. valves, besides about 35 bucks.

The 3-pos. valve has regen in the dump mode period. The problem with regen is if you want to add, say a snow plow, with power angle running off of the loader control valve, the power angle works off of single acting cylinders. With "hyd. power" being supplied to both sides of the cylinder, you will only be able to angle in one direction and that's it. (back to the whole volume-vs-psi thing again).

The 4-pos. valve has a detented position. When moving the control lever to the right, to dump (or power angle right in the case of the plow) if you choose the first detented position this is the non-regen position and will work just like the good old fashion loader control valve. If you apply a little more pressure on the control lever you will push past the detented position and move into the regen position. Thus, if you have the 4-pos. valve and want to avoid the floppy bucket syndrome you have to push full right to engage regen.

So the bottom line is; both the newer 3-pos. and 4-pos valves have the "fast dump" option. The difference is, do you want to add options to your front loader without having to add an aux valve to you're tractor or not?
