Hey all,

I bought a used 2425 farmpro at auction... it always had a hard time starting since nothing electrical works such as glow plugs, gauges etc... with the exception of the starter and alternator . Today I finally got it started ( it was 10 det today) with the help of either... I drove it around my property for 20 min when it suddenly died and won't start .... when I try to start with the help of either it it make a loud knocking sound.... what the heck did I break... what should I start checking first; fuel pump, compression, etc?

Any suggesting will be appropriated.... I never had a mechanical diesel so it's all new to me.

Because it flashes so quickly ether can be pretty hard on an engine and will give you a loud knock. Too much Can do damage.

Prettymuch the first thing to check with a diesel is if fuel is reaching the injectors. Loosen the banjo fitting on top of an injector and see if fuel comes out when you crank it over... if not, backtrack from there toward the fuel tank till you find fuel.
Possible problems to look for:
1. Clogged screens at tank and IP inlet or clogged filter. Bugs in the fuel will cause this.
2. Small leak letting air into system causing it to air bind. The injectors fire due to the very high hydraulic pressure generated by the IP transmitted thru the injector hardlines to the injectors. If air gets in, it compresses and absorbs the IP pressure and cannot transmit the pressure to pop the injectors.
3. Stuck fuel rack or governor. If the rack won稚 open fully, it won稚 deliver enough fuel to run. Basically spring pressue controlled by the throttle lever pulls the rack towards full. Governor flyweights(force increases with RPM) try to close the throttle. These two forces find a balance at a given rpm for a particular throttle position. The shutdown pull cable overides the spring and pulls the rack fully closed to kill the engine.

At ten degrees your fuel might be gelling.

So I got it started ..runsa great. I had air in the lines and it took forever to bleed. All痴, glow plugs are not working so need new ones.

Thank for the help

Matt
