2538 (2500 Series) Engine

Can anyone confirm if we can swap engines between 2500 series tractors? Can the engine from a 2555 be placed in the 2538 chassis? Asking for a friend... :thumbsup:

For something that important, I would call a dealer (or three) and ask the service managers.

I would suspect you would have to swap out the ECU as well, as the programming is likely different for the 2555 than the 2538.

The 2555 engine may be a turbo powered unit so the wiring harness, ECU etc may be different.

Good points. Yes, it would involve the wiring and ECU. I have an eye on one. But then I started looking at farm equipment (used) sites... I'm finding 2550 used (2012+) for under $15k and the guy wants $10k for the engine and electrical. I may just buy a second tractor and keep the 2538 set up as the TLB only then use the 2550 for all 3-pt work (and heavier lifting.) The issue is hoping to find one with a good service record.

Not sure on the 2538 but the 2555 and 2565 use the same engine with the HP difference dictated by the tune of the ECM.

The 2555 MCRD 55hp turbo engine is all computer controlled, and I think that you would have to ' move over ' a lot more than just the motor. I am a fan of multiple tractors, and would go that route. The cab'd version of the loader has the hyd controls floor mounted, whilst the open station has them up next to the steering wheel. I think both are quick attach. QA is the way to go.
