I am doing the 50 hr service on my 2538. On the transmission I drained the fluid, (all 8.5 gallons) replaced the screen and spin-on filter. I filled the fluid to the red dot on the sight glass. But the owners manual clearly says there is a dipstick on top of the transmission behind the seat. Well, I can't find a dipstick behind the seat. I've looked and looked. Are the H,M,L transmission and the hydro unit on the same fluid? Or is there another place to add/check oil on the H,M,L transmission?

Should be all the same - I've never done one but you normally check on a level surface and the fluid should be in the middle of the sight glass window. If it is hard to see there is a dye you can add to it (had to look this up) JD Part Number MT3668 but usually a good flashlight and a steady eye can read the hydro fluid in the sight glass.

In other words, I do not think there is a dipstick if you have a sight glass...

There is not a dipstick on this model just the sight glass by the pto shaft... on older models that used that frame they had a dipstick in the spot were you fill the fluid on top of the frog

If you filled it up to the red dot before running you will want to crank the tractor and lift the loader and extend the tilt lift the 3point set them all back to down... then pick the front end of the tractor up and turn the wheels fully to each direction 4 or 5 times to bleed any air... then when you are done set back on a level service and check it again you will most likely need to top off.. unless you pored in the specific amount
