I have a 2544 and was wondering if anyone knows how to add 4X4, or add a locking rear end, or has used a dually kit. I pull a trailer with fire wood often and get stuck a lot. Currently I have have been using 90 lbs of wheel weight and chains on my tires.

Are you pulling up a hill? Muddy/slick terrain? Do you have rear ag tires now? I would start with the easiest solution and work up.
1st - rear ag (bar) tires.
2nd - dual wheel adapter, with ags.
chains and weights accordingly.
I would personally forgo the 4wd and locking rear end, just for the significant added expense. (and time)
Keep in mind this will adding a workload to your transmission, fortunately the 2500 series is fairly stout....but I don't know much wood you're pulling and how often!
If this is an ongoing task, I would personally look at a 3000 series with diff lock, or up to a 4x4 subcompact.....understanding the cost increases with each level. The 3000 diff lock makes a huge difference over the 2000 series (having owned both) and the price is ~reasonably~ more.
Good luck!

You could buy a 4x4 compact utility tractor for the price of modding a 2544 into 4x4. There's no changeable/interchangeable parts on the transaxle. You could weld the spiders solid in the diff to achieve a locked rear, but then you'd defeat any decent mowing/maneuvering out of it. I don't think a 3K series rear would fit in a 2K machine. Some of the 3K series had lockable rears. Even though it's a cast iron case, the guts won't take that kind of pounding. They are awesome for the price, but after all, they are just a lawn/garden tractor.

Maybe the dually kit with super lugs is the way to go. This would give me more load weight and better traction.

Do you think a dually kit with super lug tires and the 90 lbs wheel weights is better thank the stock setup with wheel chains and the 90 lbs wheel weights?

Heck yes. That would be the ultimate traction setup for a 2544 IMO. In dirt you'd probably pull a wheelie before those 4 tires would spin. Either that or the internal pressure relief valve on the hydrostat would lift and you'd loose motion until you let off.

I think the dually setup is the way to go as well. I am sure that is what I will do. The adapter is like $100 and then it is about $60 a tire.

There was a discussion about "Super Lugs" versus "True Powers" on another forum the other day and everyone recommended the "True Powers" over the "Super Lugs". ANd I really do mean everyone. No one recommended the "Super Lugs".

Be carefull , The Cub Cadet 2544 is a Garden tractor that is designed only to pull a 14 to 16 cu. ft. dump cart behind it.

You may want to look into a SC2400 Cub Cadet Yanmar Sub-Compact Tractor.
