I am about to do the 50 hr service on my 2555 shuttle. When I purchased my filters from the dealer, he asked how much engine oil and hydraulic transmission fluid I needed. I told him I was going to use Shell T6 syn 5w40 in the engine and Chevron THF in the transmission/hydraulic system . You would think I had just told him I slept with his wife !! They claimed I must use their Mahindra oil in the tractor. Is there something unique to the tractor that requires this "special" oil ?? I have always used Chevron THF in the past with good results

Well - its hard to believe that the dealer tried that old game. To keep your warrantee valid you must use oils that meet or exceed the specs as stated in your owners manual.

Many years ago laws were passed that say basically you only have to use oils that meet the manufacturers specs - not any oil by specific brand.

To summarize from the other thread- Chevron THF is a definite yes. It's listed in my Mahindra manual and I can verify it works well. The Shell motor oil you will need to have someone else verify. To be clear though- Mahindra lists several different brands and "models" for fluids for each application- engine, hydraulic etc.
Oosik is correct- I too, am shaking my head at this dealer.

Thanks ..The tractor is being used in Central British Columbia where the temps ate -10 to -40 in the winter. I have always used 5w40 in my 3016 for winter use. I will do the same with my new 2555..... The manual for my 3016 gave a good list of acceptable oils , the 2555 manual claims to use Mahindra Hyd transmission only. Has anyone use a different hydraulic oil in their 2555 . I am not trying to re-invent the wheel, however I do not want any warranty issues either

With those temps I'd use the THF in the front axle too. I'm south of you in Idaho and that's what my dealer recommends for colder climates. Prob save about $.01 and a little hassle too.

You have to be aware that a lot of the front axles have brass bushing in them, and you have to use fluid that is compatible with the brass.... Just like a Jeep Wrangler German built 6-speed, not just any old transmission oil will do, even some of the synthetics...

The 5w should help a lot in those temps

Shell Rotella T6 is one of the better oils out there and is highly regarded by many on this forum and me too. I put it in all of my faster and diesel engines except for my new Tundra because it calls for 0w20.

T6 will suit you fine.

I use TSC's premium UTF in my 3016. It's spec'd for Mahindra right on the container.
