My apologies, I thought that since it was a Mahindra it wouldn't be as completely computer dependent as some other tractors. I'm not sure why I thought that, but my mechanical advice is based on the older straight mechanical tractors.
However, I assume if your engine is basically being run by the computer, it also must have a read out port or screen that provides diagnostic info. What messages are you getting? Error codes?
Alternatively, most sensors are just variable resistors providing information in the form of a varying voltage to a control computer. You can always put a VOM with a high input impedance in parallel with the sensor and see if its values are going irratic when you hear the noise.
In your case, it sounds like you are now on the right track, but I wonder if it is more likely to be actual fuel pressure or simply a bad fuel pressure sender?
