I'm going through the manual preparing for my 50hr service. Does the hydraulic system and the hydrostatic system run off the same reservoir of fluid? I see I need a hydraulic filter and a hydrostatic filter but I only see 1 drain, and the fill and dipstick are on the rear housing.

I believe it is a common sump system just like my 5035 HST. Looking at the manual, they only mention the one drain plug and one filling plug. Hope this helps...!! :)

check out near each rear wheel. My 3016 has a large housing around the gears that are at the end of the rear axle. There is a drain near the bottom of each housing....on mine anyway. Easy to miss.

Mine has five or six drains just for the hydraulic fluid and I have a gear tractor. Two drains for the engine oil, and three for the front axle.

I just hit my 50 hours and called my dealer to inquire about the service. Their tech told me that they recommend waiting until 75 hours because they combine the 50 and 100 hour service. Have any of you guys heard of this? I'm going to email them just to have a paper trail in case they say later that I have voided warranty or something to that affect.

Never heard of that, but I did both at 50 hours... Do not see anything wrong with it. I would rather get the first change done a little early. I think the important change is the first one, get rid of any metal fragments left in the cases during manufacturing and any 'wear in' metal dust as the parts first lap in. Then maybe stretch out the next change a little. But, that's just me... :)

JerryK, I tend to agree with you. I'm an avid motorcyclist and I religiously change the first oil at 500 miles and every 1500 after that. But that first is extremely important.

Well a new machine has a little bit of wearing in that it has to go though where bearings lap in together, gears mesh together and what not. That wear generates fine particles of metal. For example both of the magnetic drain plugs on my engine had some metal fines on them when I drained the engine oil. I didn't worry about it as that is normal. The same thing happens with new gears. When I replace gear sets in a differential, I use break in oil until the gears go through a period of lapping themselves together, then I drain and replace the oil. The new gears will even run hot until they have fully lapped themselves in. Once that initial lapping or wearing in period has elapsed, operating temperatures will drop to normal so you drain out the original break in oil, replace any filters which probably have trapped metal wear particles in them and refill with clean new oil. It's probably better to do this early rather than later.

While the manual says to replace only the hydraulic filter and wait on the hydraulic oil till 100, I'll be doing both at 50 hours because there is no reason to wait. Doing one without doing the other is a lot like taking a shower while wearing a raincoat.

My manual doesn't say anything about a 100hr service. Engine oil & filter and hydraulic filter, hydrastatic filter, & transmission fluid at 50 hrs. Engine oil and filter every 100 hrs after that. The others don't get changed again for 500 hrs per my manual.
