Help! I bought a used 2005 2615 w/FLE w/500 hrs a couple of months ago. Works great, no leaks. The other day, I turned the key, glow lights came on, fuel pump kick in, turned the key to the start position...nothing. I wiggled some wires, tried again, nothing. The glow plug timer was making a clicking sound. I checked the battery, low water on two cells...put in some water in charged the baterry... still nothing. Like a dummy, I paid $130 for a new glow timer, switched out batteries...still nothing. Glow plug fuze (10 amp) is good. What do I do next? I've read on this site about safety switches...nothing in my owners manual about them. I'm lost.
I would start at Ground zero (literally) Remove the ground cable from the battery and clean it up on the battery and where it connects to the chasis. Next clean up the + post and battery clamp. Clean up the contact to the relay or solenoid where the battery + goes to as well.
Again, Thanks for the reply. I'm going to get a new baterry today (I used my boat battery to check initially). I think starting from scratch is good idea, I will educate myself on the electrical system in the process. I will keep ya'll informed.
Sometimes the starter itself won't have a good ground to the engine. If you can have someone hold the key while you scratch between the two with a screwdriver, you might see sparks there. Could just be the starter itself, give it a few taps.
As mentioned, check your two PTO levers for the rear and mid PTO's. Both must be off. Also make sure the H/M/L lever is in neutral. If still won't crank you'll have to dig deeper into one of the three lockout switches on these levers.
My 2615 has done the exact same thing a couple of times. Both times it was corroded battery cables. One time the cables really were not that corroded but after a good cleaning she started. Good luck and keep us posted.
