I have a 2615 HST 4X4. Medium range and low range appear to have plently of power. However when I shift into High range it will barely go. Starts off slow the picks up speed, but the slightest incline makes it bog down to a stall. Makes me think the brakes are stuck????? 2006model with 254 hrs. Would appreciate any advice!

Thanks

I'm sorry I don't have any experince with hydro's . I would make sure that the brakes are not stuck or out of adjustment. Also check to see if it does this in 2 wheel drive as well in 4wd . I think hydros use the petals for speed only so if it starts to bog down let up on the petal to lower the speed and have more power ,as I stated I have no first hand knowledge of this. Maybe someone with a hydro will chime in and confirm or set us both straight on this.

Roc, this fall i tried out a hydro 3016 which is almost the same tractor as yours. It did the same thing you are describing when going up a slight incline in high. It is why I bought the geared 3016. Now I do not know if your tractor always did this but my trial was with a brand new tractor.

I know next to nothing about a 2615, but some about HSTs. I think what you described is the nature of an HST; my 3016 and my RTV 500 do the same thing. If you let-off some on the pedal, the fluid dynamics in the HST are altered (sort of like down-shifting).

You should hear the RPMs increase commensurately as you let-off on the pedal, depending on the incline and load, you may only have 1" of downward-travel on the pedal until you have to stop and shift into M, then into L as required.

The advice I received from my dealer (for my area geographical area; hills) was to stay in M or L and run the RPMs no less than 1,500, and "H" is for level/hard surface travel (kind of like a tank); so I usually run between 1,500 and 2K RPMs.

Checking the movement of the brake linkage (below) could eliminate or verify the "stuck brakes idea". Checking the fuel filter would be a good idea too; making sure to touch all the bases, any lack of fuel supply may cause the same thing.

Hope this helps

My 2615 HST acts a lot like yours. In Hi going into a grade it seems to slow down, if in med it also seems to slow but still has power. I would also try changing the fuel filter cause if fuel is restricted it will loose power. If you have your brake pedals locked, unlock them and drive forward, if a break is hanging it will pull to that side. While doing this let your hands off the steering wheel.

Hydros need lots of RPM to perform well, so run at least 2000 RPM. As stated, high range is just for traveling and if your tires are loaded it will also magnify the problem.

Well I finally discovered the problem. The brakes were not releasing completely. After climbing under the tractor and son pressing the brakes, I noticed the brake linkage would not return. I was able to tap on the linkage with a hammer to return the brakes to release position. This solved the problem, High range works like a charm now. With the HST i rarely have to use the brakes at all and I can probably do OK. This will probably help my fuel consumption as well!! I was able to dissasemble the brake linkage and work the brakes back and forth by hand. Just have to figure out how to loosen up the brakes so they will return on thier own.
