I'm just back inside from my first hour of seat time on my first tractor. What a beast, I'm very impressed. I pulled an Agri Five mower behind me and mowed down mesquite, brush, weeds, and Blackeyed Susans if they got in the way. I moved here in 98 and this is the first time some of this area -- it just outside the pasture and along a driveway -- has ever been mowed.

One thing I noticed right away is that the front end is too light with that mower attached. Wheels come off the ground if I start to quickly, or sometimes when I am going up an incline. It's particularly noticable when I try to turn. Is that what NASCAR drivers call push? The wheels turn but the tractor doesn't want to.

Anyway, it seems to me the best solution would be to get some counterweights to hang off the front. But then I am a complete newbie and I guess the smartest thing I can do is ask for advice.

Thanks,

Papa Joe

Advice: Don't do any more mowing until you get the light front end taken care of. You really don't want to flip it over backwards.

Do you have a front end loader?

Thanks for the advice on the weights, I will do some shopping tomorrow.

No, I don't have a FEL.

I talked to the dealership this morning about getting some weights for the front end. After I explained what it was doing with the mower on, the salesmen said he would look to see what they had on hand for the 2615. A few minutes later, he called back and said drop on by, we have 4 weights we'll give you for your new tractor.

I'm turning into a real big fan of Mahindra and the dealer.

Went out in the pasture and did some mowing with the 4 weights hanging off the front bumper. Much better. No wheeliies, not even when I am less than smooth with the clutch when I start off. Better feel going up the slope, too, but still a little bit light. I think I need to add another 80 lbs or so.

PapaJoe, you need to get the tires filled. That will take out that light feeling and it will handle alot better. It will put the CG alot lower than the weights.

Thanks for that tip, Larry. What do they use, just water and antifreeze? Is there any downside to having them filled? And would I just want the front tires filled, or all 4?

the down side is over a long period of time it will corrode the rims, but in your situation with that size tractor i would do it. ill bet it increases your performance a bunch. did you get to check out a 2015? if so how much smaller was it. i want to upgrade our riding mower to a small tractor but i think a 2015 may be too big, a 2615 is wat too big. my dealer wont carry a 2015 so i have never seen one in person. i want to drive one but i guess im sol because he is the only mahindra dealer around hear. i bought a 4500 from him in march, i sure like it.

The only downside I could see is the corrosion issue. I filled with water and antifreeze because I know AF has anti corrosion properties. Fill all 4, I think if I remember correctly that the rears took about 44 gals each and the fronts 4 each. You should still keep your front ballast but the bulk of the tire weight will now be under the axles and it will make a major handling difference. One thing you can do is find a local tire shop that does alot of tractors, they will be able to tell you what they use most frequently. Good Luck....

I would say the 2015 might be just the right tractor for what you want. They look pretty much like the 2615, but smaller. The thing that got me thinking 2615 instead of 2015 was they are just a little too small -- in terms of height -- to handle a PHD very well.
