Looking to buy about 50-60 hp tractor. Found 585 case and 265 massey both about same money same shape. Case dealer a little closer but not much. Will use for bush hogging and possible hay work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Ray

I'm trying to remember, would the 265 usually be a little older? I think they're pretty close, MF has the Perkins which might be a plus. Are the transmissions similar or does either of them have some kind of power shift like multipower, torque amplifier, etc.; that would be handy for hay work. Same size wheels/tires on both? I'd look them over real close, maybe try to demo and pick the one that's in the best shape and/or best fits your needs.

Thanks for the reply. Transmission on case is syncro not on mf. Case is newer but mf looks to be in good shape. Are there any issues with getting parts for either?
Thanks Ray

We have the 1976 265 MF FIL bought new and has 1300. Not mint but solid. It does have multipower (deluxe models had it I think) BUT in old tractors I would prefer they not have those features that can be expensive if they break.

Do not know the Case but I know the 265 MF. They have the weight to do a lot of work and if cared for the Perkins engine is about as good you can get. Parts are not a problem on Ebay or at the dealer. Just had to buy a new battery. They are huge and $137+ at interstate. Normal range is $150+.

The rear PTO seal leaks some. We had a grabbing brake but was busy and I added a quart of Lucas Hydraulic Oil Booster and that helped. Actually got the UTF and new filter but just have not got it changed out but the Lucas helped with the rear seal leak and renews the additive package in the UTF. Ours will start before you can get off of the key. We still have the OEM tires on the rear.

Thanks GH, what does FIL stand for?

If I decide I do not want it or the kids then my BIL (brother in law) will have a chance to buy it or pass.

I expect the newer Case would be fine but I have know idea where they are built, etc.
