271XE? Can't find much

My big Zetor lost a motor this summer, I got it running again and sold it at a local consignment auction. So I'm in the market for a 4x4 loader tractor 50-75 hp. A somewhat local dealer has a low hour (under 1000) 271XE with an ALO loader. Now looking this tractor over it seems to be the exact same Perkins that my MF265 (1976) has a 236ci. I really like the my 265, its got almost all the power I need, and great on fuel. Seems to be the same transmission and rear end as well. Now there is a big MF dealer in town and quite frankly most of the people I know that have bought new MFs for actual farm work have not been happy. Especially the 400 and 500 series. Am I right to assume that the 200 series should be just as reliable as the UK built MFs of old?
The tractor was on a dairy and has brand new front tires and pretty worn rear tires, so it hasn't lived a life of ease. But I"m not terribly worried about the motor,clutch, trans,rear end being able to withstand it, if the quality hasn't changed.

The 271xe is a great tractor. Boy i like that 200 series. I wouldnt take for my 285.:thumbsup:

I've liked the 200 series for a while. And they are getting reasonable at auctions around here. This spring I was at a big auction up in northern Vt and they had 4 in a row, 285, 275,265, 255. I was able to snag my 265 rowcrop with new rubber and 5500 hrs for 4300. That's my new go to tractor for haying. It sips fuel and spins around on a dime. There was a 285 and a 275 at the fall auction that both went for under 5 but I was too worried about what my Zetor would bring to plunk down a bid.
Do you know of any retro fit rops for the early 200s?

The 271XE was a good tractor. Simple to operate & simple to work on.
If you're going to use it for heavy farm work, you'll want to be sure to ballast it right. That's the biggest problem I've seen that makes people unhappy. Well, that and the brakes being a little on the weak side if using heavy equipment.

The rear tires are loaded, same as all the other tractors I run. Which should take care of most problems. It got traded on a new deere so it qualifies for Deere financing which is the best rate right now on used. They are 3.9 for 48, CaseIH is 5.9 and Kubota is 8. I've tested a couple Case 585 and 685s, but the price isn't quite there. I do like their synchro setup. I've also been looking at 5310s and 5410s. My father has a 5410 that we've had good luck with. The biggest problem we've had with it, is the narrow wheel base gets a little hairy on side hills when you loading silage bales.
Quick question on the ALO loader, what other loaders have the same bucket disconnect system? I know its not a skidsteer or deere system.
Right now I'm at 15.5 for the tractor. Hoping to knock him down a bit more.

Ended up buying the tractor on saturday. Deere is running a good rate on used equipment and this was traded in on a new Deere so it qualified, 3.9 for 48.
Talked them down 250 bucks which really doesn't add up to much. But it makes ya feel good. So 15,250 final price, 2 new front tires, new clutch and new hyrdo pump with 970 hours. The 2 remotes are going to be nice as well. Haven't got a tractor with 2 remotes, so opening the discbine usually means swapping hoses.
Just got done tedding 15 acres with it, and it was worked well. I think the clutch needs some adjusting, it kicks in with my knee about in my chest. And I'm going to have to track down a another bale spear setup since my other one is on a deere mount.
