I recently found out that Mahindra had a modification whereby they added a relay mod into the wiring harness in order to eliminate a voltage backfeeding through the control module and burning it out. My machine is two and a half years old and this was my dealers first instance of this but I did, thankfully, get a single post to alert me to this here on the forum and, with that info, my dealer looked into it to find out that in fact Mahindra had a bulletin on this.
When this first happened the tractor would not start as if a safety function wasn't met. The dealer replaced the control module and everything seemed to be working not aware of the mod but the module soon failed again. This time, when I went to stop the engine, it kept running. The stop solonoid was staying engaged and burned up before I realized what was happening taking out the control module again. This has also taken out the glow plug timer and relay.
Obviously this is something that has already been addressed by Mahindra but are there any of you aware of this and, if so, do you know what is backfeeding?

I seen to have the same problem with my 2810HST . It was an intermitent problem at first , but has now completely failed.
I spent one morning finding every saftey in the starter circuit a jumping them out one at a time, they all where fine.

I ended up running a wire from my horn to the solenoid on the starter until I get it fixed so I can use the tractor.

I works so well I had forgot about getting it fixed.

When I do get it fixed , my wife is going to ask me why I keep honking the horn before I start the tractor.

Come On Guys, surely someone here has some info concerning Mahindra's update concerning this problem. It's not a big deal if brought to light but would get expensive if the modification isn't addressed. Replacing the control module without implementing the relay modification in the wiring harness has now caused further problems in my case taking out my stop solenoid and glow plug relay.
I would hope we're here to identify such situations and assist with corrective measures.

I haven't had any problem yet, but I hope to be near a dealer this week to ask about it.

Demote, I have already talked to the Mahindra service rep and have alerted him to your problem. Give me a call at 585-343-0770 and let me know all the pieces you need and I will make sure this problem gets solved.

Thanks Galen but my dealer is taking care of me just fine. I'm just wanting to get some idea of what models this is affecting so that we all know whether or not ours is one that needs the mod. Mine is two and a half years old but this is the first my dealer has seen of this problem but then found out that Mahindra had a modification which consists of a relay that goes in the wiring harness that is meant to stop voltage from backfeeding through the controller as I understand it.
Here's the details of the failure: First, mine wouldn't start as if a safety check wasn't met. It could be jumped at the starter fine. The service guy ordered a controller module replacing it and we thought everything was good but a few days later when I went to shut the engine off, it wouldn't stop, or at least not immediately but did finally with smoke coming from under the hood. I found that the smoke was coming from the stop engine solenoid and had burnt it out before I got it disconnected. The dealer then felt there was some wiring problem so came and picked up the tractor to take it in for inspection. This is when they learned of the modification issued by Mahindra. So far, they have replaced the stop solenoid, the controller module again, glow plug relay and now waiting on another part which I think they said was a relay timer.
Maybe your rep contact could shed some light on what models this modification applies to so that others here could benefit.
Thanks again, Danny

I know the answer to that, it is the 2810 and 2310 HST models. Some of the late 2810 HST and all of the 3510 HST models already have the diode/relay harness on them.

Galen,
I purchased mine in late 2003 and I'm assuming that isn't what you mean by a late model. Is this something easily identifiable? If so and mine needs it, can I just order and install it? I don't actually have a local dealer anymore, although I can get to a dealer in southern Maine in needed.
Thanks,
Torin

Torin,
It's been so long, since we installed the ones for my customers, that I can't quite remember just what it looks like. I know it is a wire pig tail, about 4 to 5 inches long, with a relay in the line. It would be plugged in between 2 plugs on the wiring harness under the hood above the rear of the engine. The pig tail can be gotten from Mahindra, and I believe the service rep is sending me one. If you need it or any more imfo let me know.

Galen,
Thanks, I'll look at mine this weekend to see if I can see anything. Your help is very much appreciated.
