Tractor
Mahinra 2810 HST
Your suggestions please. The tractor has been cranking fine all weekend but the last time I shut it down and went back to crank it, it just failed to hit the starter. I've jumpered the seat switch and tested the brake switch, pto is off. I hear clicking but no attempt to turnover. It acts like some safety switch issue but I don't think it's that since the check light doesn't come on as it does when the brake isn't locked. When turning the ignition switch, the glow light comes on and I don't remember if that's normal or not. The manual mentions a HST switch but I don't know where that is. Any ideas?

I think you have a bad control module. Just had one replaced on my 2810. Dealer also installed a relay in harness to keep it from happing again. IT was under warrenty

Thanks a bunch for your reply and you were right. The service guy was stumped on this one. I suggested the controller and referenced your post to him but he wasn't familiar with the problem. With my(your) suggestion of the controller as well as it being noted in the service manual's troubleshooting procedure, they ordered a replacement. It came in yesterday and he came out to put it on and I was up and running. He said they have had very few problems with the Mahindra's since they've been carrying them which is something like 3 or 4 years but I think I read a post previously concerning a controller failure. Hopefully this is like other electronic components that usually fail early on if they're going to fail. My tractor is just over two and a half years old and don't know yet if this item is covered under warranty. Thanks again, Danny.

Did the dealer install a relay in your wiring harness to stop current from feeding back to your controller. If not it might happen again

No, he just replaced the controller, and I was wondering about that in your post. How was it that your dealer came to make that modification?

When you turn your tractor off something was feeding current back to your controller this relay plugs between connectors in harness. This cuts off the backfeed thats what I was told.Good Luck

I think you're onto something. My stop solenoid killed my battery today. I cranked it with jumper cables and noticed smoke coming from under the hood. The stop solenoid was staying latched and is now fried. I took the solenoid out and it is very hard to move the shaft. And now, after cranking it and trying to measure voltage in coming to the solenoid, I'm getting zero so apparently the new controller is bad.
I'm going to talk to my dealer tomorrow. Can you tell me your dealer's name so he might give him a call to find out where to connect the relay in the harness? Thanks, Danny
