Hello all!

It may possibly be nothing wrong but... recently I've noticed that my clutch pedal doesnt need to be pressed in as far as it did around 50 hours ago. This is for the 1st stage, or transmission portion. It only needs to be pressed about an inch or two to stop the tractor. I tested it for slippage by locking the brakes and easing out in mid gear. It will kill the engine almost instantly. So I'm almost positive there is no slipping. My father-in-law is a heavy equipment mechanic and said he thinks nothing is wrong since its not slipping. His idea to test as mentioned above. It just seems that not long ago, I had to press the pedal about 1/2 way to disengage the first stage. Just wanted some of your opinions before I let it wear something out.

Also, I've noticed a small oil leak around the bottom of the engine. Not really leaking, but enough residue to attract dirt and dust. I've never really seen a tractor engine that didnt have some oil on it, but is this normal or should I take her to the dealer and let them take a look.

Sorry for the long post.

Jonathan

The manual for my 2615 (essentially the same as a 2816) gives detailed instructions on clutch pedal adjustment.

I had a 2615 (same tractor), very simple to adjust. I believe that there should be 1.5-1.75in of free play (check your manual for the proper amount). The adjustment should be on the left side of the center column, all you need is a couple wrenches:thumbsup:

As for the oil, if its on the sides of the tractor, check to ensure that the loader bolts are tight...if not it can crack your engine and cause you an expensive repair. The oil would be on the side of your engine, just below the bolts where the loader brackets are mounted. If the leak is under the engine, inspect the drain plug, and I would use a new crush washer on the next oil change. If you over tighten the drain bolt...you know the rest of that story.
You have a great machine, by the way.

I think I may to adjust the clutch. Hopefully I can get it right.

About the oil leak, I gave her a good pressure washing over the weekend. After I pulled it into my gargage and got on my creeper to really get a look at the oil leak. With all the dust and dirt it looked like oil was coming from every direction. After cleaning and getting underneath it looks like its coming from the oil pan or out of the crank bearing. I gave all the oilpan bolts a round to tighten. I havent had a chance to run it to see if this helped. Does anyone think it may be coming from the crank bearing. She only has 95 hours.
Maybe the tightning of the oilpan fixed the leak.

Leaking oil pan...very possible. I doubt that the crank bearin is going out...95 hrs is not much time. I am willing to bet that its the pan if it was loose. Check the valve cover also, it could be running down the engine, but make sure you check around the loader bracket bolts...

I've put a few hours, dusty hours, on her over the past few weeks and I think that oil leak is gone. Hopefully.

Just this morning I heard a slight chatter in the rear end of the tractor. Sounded like in behind the pto shaft. Only time it stops is when the clutch is pushed in. I知 starting to think it痴 just the clutch adjustment. Unfortunately, I only noticed the noise this morning and I will be gone for a few weeks so I can稚 check the adjustment. I知 now wondering how long it痴 been like it if it was out fo adjustment and how much wear I may have put on it. I have been behind the tractor as it ran an this was first time I heard it. Can稚 say what the clutch felt like before. But I致e always used the clutch to shift between neutral to gear and vice versa. 99% of tractor hours been in low gear. Only few hundred hours on it. How long have these clutches lasted. Manual goes say to adjust every 200 hours.

Well I got back home and adjusted the clutch. Shifts a little better. But when I engaged the pto just to function it the noise came back. It sounds like a marble bouncing around or gear teeth just starting to mesh. Dealer said this tractor has a single clutch. For some reason I thought two as I thought I could put tractor in neutral but still use the pto. Anyway, when noise came back I went to look at pto and noticed the pto shaft slowing down and then back up to speed again. He said thereç—´ an over running clutch it it that might need a load on it. Anyone have a similar issue.

Is it a single stage clutch in these 2816 hst? I may put the snowblower on it in two days time and see if it runs it ok
