For anyone with erratic tach, oil, and temp guages, I found that the ground for these is at the bottom screw holding the fuse block in place on my Jinma 284. Now I need to figure out why my front lights have never worked (and it is not a ground problem).

I have had problems with just about all of the light switches on my jinma 224. Jump across the switch to test it if it is bad you can repair them yourself. Take out the switch and you will see that they snap together inside there is a rocker that gets out of place. This is assuming that we have the same type of switch. Robby

George,
You might want to check out your starter switch to see if it is faulty. An earlier thread mentions this.

Also, each of your headlights have a ground wire as well. On my Kama, I checked for a loose connection using a voltmeter and everything checked out OK. I came across a loose ground on one of the head light that would conduct, but not always. When I tightened it, ...lights.

George - the 200 Series Jinma ground wire(s) are black, and marked with a little wraparound label with the number 44 on it. But what confuses the issue, is that there are several different black wires marked #44. At least you can be confident that they all eventually go to ground. The tach and oil pressure and water temp gauges however, are typically grounded through the sending units.

I've had two JM254s, and both had every single switch fail within the first six months. They are of extremely poor quality in the first place, most often failing because of collapsed wafers - or simply just falling apart. And the factory is bad about installing ground wires on top of thick layers of paint. As almost every lighting problem I've fixed involved either a ground or a switch. I also second the notion that it could be in the keyswitch as well. You might be interested in my switch mod. Click HERE.
