I am going to attempt a small fencing project and have considered whether I would get my money out of a new post hole digger over the years (Ray at Coldwater here in Hoquiam has them for $600). A friend suggested that I buy the pointed posts and push them into the ground with my loader bucket instead of buying the hydraulic unit designed for this. Dumb idea or worth a try? I understand that the plus (besides no implement to purchase) is that they are tight right away and the negative is they can be hard to keep straight. What do you all think.

Depends what kind of fence you're putting in. If its a stockade or similar with 4x4 posts you would almost have to auger them in. I bought my auger @ TSC 2 years ago and have since augered about 150 holes. I like it...

If you want to push them into the ground I suggest you rent/buy a post pounder. I'm not sure if they make one for a tractor that small. But google will lead you to a bunch of them.

I have a Greenline auger that works very well, have set over 500 posts with it. Beating posts in with a FEL could cause damage to your machine

Somewhere in the last couple of months there was someone that made a removable pipe/sleve that was on the side of his fel, I believe he said it worked well. I don't have the time to search now, but will see if I can find it.
Good luck, Dave
