2910 clutch safety switch

Howdy,
Sure could use a couple of pointers to solve this little problem.
My 2910 has once again refused to start unless I stick a screwderiver between the switch and the "plate" on the clutch linkage.

I assume the switch is OK since it starts OK when the screwdrive is in place and run OK after starting and screwdriver is removed.

The switch is in a hard to get to place. Looks like the "dashboard" - steering wheel and ???? would have to be removed to get to the switch.

What would you do?

Norris, If you can get to the wires at the back of the switch you can bypass it by just connecting the two wires. I had the switch go on my B8200 and that is how I got it started. Ran it that way for about two years, untill I got a new switch. But yours sounds like its just out of adjustment. Just needs to be closer to the petal. They are adjustable, just hard to reach. Good luck with it.

Attached is a copy of the sheet from the WSM on how to adjust the clutch. The adjustment "C" is the one you need to set.

You shouldn't have to play with it again if you get it right this time. They haven't had to much problem with them as of yet.

Thanks to Ron for the diagram. I shimed the switch this morn moved the 2910 out into the sunshine and adjusted the cluch linckage per the diagram.
Duh, it took extra time before I figured the lock nut was on the left hand threaded end. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Worked all day must have started 10-12 times worked like a charm.
Quiting time came and "no start" crawled under and tried to get wires unpluged as Von suggested. Could not get the lock plug to release. Worry,Worry, /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Since the FEL and Blade was UP, got the van backed across the dam and pulled 2910 to trailer expecting to take to shop tomorrow.

Took helper home on return I thought I'd give it another try. Started just like it is supposed to.

Question, do you think my switch is defective, or what else could it be?
Would towing it have caused anything to change that would make it start?

That switch is a "tough nut to crack". Looks like the "dash" and others may have to be removed just to get at the thing. I hate to think about replacing it. Thanks for additional suggestions.

If the switch is adjusted properly and the problem is still happening there is a good chance the switch is defective.

I looked for some more information on the safety switches. There is a switch in the circuit that checks for HST to be in neutral. I have attached the page.

It isn't that hard to get it but it does sound like it is failing.

Yes I can "get" to it, put my fingers on it but I don't have a clue as to what kind of wrench will loosen the lock nut. It is in a tight spot with very little room to manuver. As I mentioned earlier, is it necessary to remove the "dash" and some other parts of the "body" in order to get to the switch? Or is there a special wrench that will do the job?
