My YM1500 has the 2TR15 in it and i was wondering how noisy/clunky/rattly are others? mine is fairly clunky(as old diesels are) but it does vary greatly depending on RPM.down low it is OK but mid range it can get the clunks up and then disappears in the upper revs. the oil pressure appears OK(have NOT used a gauge on it but idiot lights turns off very quickly) apart from that it seems good, not smoky or sluggish. i thought it could also be the pump or injectors causing this (possibly lean midrange?) as it does not fume in this range.Any thoughts??

I had asked the same question when I got mine as it sounded awfully noisy to me as well . I had asked if it could be a rod knocking , Most everyone commented if a rod was knocking You likelly couldn,t here it because there normally so noisy anyway  . So I never worryed about it since then . :D . Bob

There is a reason people call it the "Yammer Hammer". :) The 2 cylinders are very clattery. Do a YouTube search for Yanmar tractor and listen to the 2 cylinder models.

Here is one (skip to about 2:30 to avoid the guys long walk to the tractor)

Clatter? A UPS truck clatters. I would call a 2-cylinder Yanmar's racket more like clank-clank-clank. That's the sound of raw power! :D

Power Service (silver bottle) or some other diesel fuel additive that raises the Cetane level will tame it some.

I'm running B90, biodiesel with a little petro diesel in it so I can get it started in the morning. Biodiesel inherently has higher Cetane so this clanks less.

There are a couple of 2-cylinder sound recordings referenced from my sig, below. One is a YM1500 demo'ed by a dealer. I think you will find it sounds the same as yours.
