3.75 Hp pressure washer motor surging?

Morning,

Craftsman model 580.752000.
Fire it up and it surges for the lack of a better word. Acts like it's choking, rpm's run up and then black smoke and almost stalls?
Anyone tell me what's wrong with it? Don't know much about pulsa prime carb.

Any help would be great thanks.

ok your motor is burning up or thats what it sounds like to me.you can take it to a electric motor shop an have them look at it.an they may be able to rebuild the motor or replace it.sometimes when the motor burns up its cheaper to get a new 1.

Fresh gas.. carb cleaner..

Squeeze the wand trigger before you start it, wait until the water runs clear ( no air in the stream ), then start it while still holding the trigger. Most of these washers will surge with air in the pump.

Other than that, >>> fresh gas, and possibly the governer is out of adjustment.

ive ran pressure pumps aka washers for 30yrs or longer.an when ours would surge an smoke with the water on it meant that the pump was burning up.plus it would plain quit working when it burns out.

Did you store it with gas in it all winter long? If so you may have to rebuild or replace the carb. It sounds like it could be Ethanol ate the float seat and now gas is overflowing the bowl and burning in the engine. I have a walk behind string trimmer that did the same thing.

My craftsman did this ,i discovered the pump wasnt by passing and was struggling to pump causing the pw to surge.Made an adjustment to it and it straightened it out Does it still purgr when your squeezing the trigger on the wand?

Clean that carb..........either by just flushing it out, dismantling it and blowing it out, a carb cleaner, or a new one...........ONCE you are positive that it is right.........

Sounds to me like it is the pump........worked and worked workin on my honda carb, took it to the shop for them to look at and it was fine............Replaced the pump itself and all is right with the world........God bless......Dennis
