Anyone know of a brand and/or on-line source for locking handle load binders made and rated for 3/8" Grade 70 transport chain? All I can find is locking handle load binders up to 7/16" Grade 70 / 3/8" Grade 43.

Here is a picture of what I want... just the wrong size/rating:

I have some 3/8's 5,600 pound rated binders made in the USA even but they do not have th locking mechanism.

I then tried some ratcheting binders and that is all I use now, nice tight, easy to use, and no busted/bruised knuckles.

good luck finding those

There must be a reason why no locking handle load binders appear to be made for 3/8" Grade 70 chain. I just don't get it. Seemed like a good idea for me since I am occasionally forced to store the tractor outside on its trailer. I'd prefer the tractor to be reasonably secure from kids & malicious mischief.

I guess my options are to buy some rated for 3/8" Grade 43 chain and use them with my Grade 70 chain (taking the big hit on working load)... or buy 3/8" Grade 70-rated load binders without locks and try to figure out some other way to securely lock them.

I went to Lowe's and bought their grade 70 chain and 3/8 binders. I have a ten inch nylon rope that after the binders are cinched down, I go around the handle and tie it down with the nylon rope, I also wrap the excess chain around the same handle. Now I go through the Union CT DOT scale frequently, where they have visually checked my set up, and have never had a problem,.

Certainly sounds like a good idea for routine travel purposes, but I am focusing more on preventing possible vandalism and malicious mischief with this attempt to find locking handle load binders in 3/8" Grade 70 rating. I can't come up with a better way to guard against kids or the occasional vandal or drunk deciding to have a little fun with my exposed, trailered tractor. I see a lot of discussion here about tying down to be safe on the road and satisfy the authorities but very little talk about securing tractors on trailers against vandalism and malicious mischief.

Do what I do. Buy a longer lock, run it through a link of the chain and over the handle of the binder. You don't have to have the special binder. JC

I suppose you're right. I just haven't come across the right set of locks yet. Maybe use an adjustable bicycle lock? Still, it's driving me nutty trying to figure out why there is no such thing as a locking handle load binder in 3/8" Grade 70. Why do they all stop at 7/16" Grade 70 / 3/8" Grade 43? Is it a technical issue? Some federal standard they wouldn't meet? I can't believe there is no demand. The locking handle just seems like a very good idea in any size or rating.

Try your local locksmith. He should have some long shackle American locks that should do the job. AMERICAN LOCK COMPANY

on two of my binders, there are holes at the end of the handle jsut for this purpose. You would need one of those long, skinny bike locks and I'm sure it would work fine.
