I purchased a tc55da 2wd a month or so ago. I was offered a backhoe from my uncle that fits on a 3 point hitch. I noticed that the NH backhoe uses a subframe. The backhoe is about the same size as the bh recommended by the nh dealer, 12 inch bucket. Im sure that it doesnt wiegh 2000 pounds. Its off a machine like a case bucket/backhoe combo and has the three point hookups welded on. He's used it several times on his 75 hp tractor without any problems. has a pto pump on it that is almost new. He wants $500 for it but I'm not sure about the three point vs. subframe issue. I have 1000# of ford wieghts I picked up at an auction at .20 cents/lb. so could add those if I need to. Has a seat and controls etc.
Think it would work? Could it be plumbed to the tractor hydraulics? (I have one rear remote and a bucket)
thanks

Even with the standard size of hoe that comes on compact tractors, there can be a problem with the tractors breaking into. That is the reason most manufactures offer sub-frame assemblies for compact tractors. It sounds like this is an even larger hoe. The forces that are generated by using a hoe are enormous. With that large of a hoe, I would be afraid to use that size of hoe on it with a sub-frame. It sounds like you don't have a loader. If you don't it isn't advisable to mount a backhoe on it. It isn't so much for the weight as it is for stability when using the backhoe. If you do a search you will find more than you want to read about using a three-point backhoe verse using a sub-frame mounted backhoe.

I have run a woods 7500 3 pt backhoe without any problems for 800 hours.

I think it all depends on how you use the BH. I have a 3pt Woods 7500 on my TC33D. The soil here is mostly sandy, and I don't use the BH to dig out stumps of any substantial size. If you use a BH much, it's not hard to tell when you putting stress on your machine. A subframe is a good idea, but with common sense, it's not a absolute requirement. If you're hard on equipment, or want to push your BH to the limit, get a subframe.

Not every three-point backhoe breaks every tractor, but you are taking a chance any time you install one on a compact tractor. Do a search back through the archives and look at what happens when one has had enough.
