Before I make my own, does anyone have a good design or idea for modifying a 3 point blade.

When I plow snow the gravel from my drive ends up going with the snow. I've tried keeping the blade an inch or so above the gravel but that gets to be a pain. So I thought I'd make some feet for the blade like you see on a plow truck. The blade is only 5 feet wide and I still use it for scrapping and stuff.

Open to some good input!:D

Turning the blade around "backward" is how I do it, doesn't scrape the gravel nearly as much.

I also use the convex side of the rear blade. In my case, I push in reverse gear most the time.
If the snow is heavy (wet) or deep (8"or more), I may plow forward (concave side of the blade) but leave the blade half inch or so above the gravel.
This won't prevent all the gravel from going in the grass, but will reduce your Spring clean up work.

Gee and here I was thinking I did not know how to use the backblade because I got much better results pushing with the concave side.

Old School, if you have a landscape rake, try that for your dirveway instead of the rear blade. I will do a better job and you won't be blading away your stone.

Sincerely, Dirt

There is another thread where someone put a piece of electrical conduit over the blade cutting edge. I am thinking of trying that. I didn't of running the blade backwards.

Not really any snow this year, so far, but a good question, anyway. I have been looking for some skid shoes, but gauge wheels sound good, too. I will have to look into threads for them. The convex side of the blade works well, but not when the snow is wet and deep. Beats shoveling, for sure!

I have a lot of gravel drive and yard areas to clean, once it's frozen hard it's not an issue but before it freezes it is a problem, I push backwards with the plow reversed like every one suggests, I added some significant weight to prevent the blade from riding up on top of the snow, especially when the snow is deep or heavy, I do like the idea of gauge wheels like bigdad mentioned, that way you could set the blade to 1/2 inch and plow away with out tearing up your drive way, using the blade the way it was designed. after all I would be lost without the wheels on my rake.

The pipe over the blade trick worked for me before we paved the road. Just use 2-3" galvanized pipe, with a slot cut along the pipe to fit your cutting edge into. Baling wire will hold it on, or if you want to get fancy, weld a couple of tabs onto the pipe to attach it to the cutting edge bolts.:D
