That seems to be a design weakness that none of the tractors in my experience suffer from.

I suppose some of these new tractors with housing and fittings made of pot metal may show unfavorably.

It isn't just the lifting arms that do the work.

A conventional implement applies a mostly forward and backwards force to the tractor's top link attachment point.

This style of boom applies an upwards force to the top link attachment point equal to about three times the weight of the load lifted.

Agree with Bruce. Those top bracket bolts will load in shear rather than tension.
Load direction on the housing the bolts secure to will have a large vertical component, rather than all aftwards.

It looks more like a post hole digger type boom than a typical lifting boom pole.
As such, it will have a lot more (2.8 times) vertical range of motion and 1/2.8 the lifting capacity compared to a typical lifting boom pole.

The design is well suited to lifting lighter loads high off the ground.

I will take loads in shear over tension any day. (No threads were harmed in product testing;-)

A boom pole that lifts high is what I prefer. heavy lifts, above head level give me the willies.

the single most important "safety" feature that should be built into every boom pole is a detachable chain fitting.

For when forward motion is no longer the desired action.
Let the load go!

Take a quick look through Google images using "Ferguson Jib Crane" for the search term.

Many good tractor images and boom ideas.

Some bright folks have come and gone. I suppose some would say that Ferguson was unconventional. ;-)
