I've hung out here for a while, seldom post, but am amazed at the resourcefulness of those here, and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Dose anyone make a lower lift pin that would transition from a Category II (threaded end) to Category I (pin end). Are there pins like this available do you know of a source?

A little background: I found a great deal on an old 8' 3 point blade that will be used to move snow and every now and again grade the drive. The tractor has way more than enough lift capacity for the blade, the only thing is that blade has Cat II pins and the tractor Cat I. I know I can weld in a bushing to go from I -> II, and that is certainly an option. From a manufactures stand point it would seem that since I'm "down sizing" safety shouldn't be a factor...but it appears to be, or am I just missing something here?

Thanks in advance...

I'm not sure what you mean by a pin-end, but TSC or your local tractor dealer should have cat. 1 pins that you can change out with. My local TSC has threaded cat.1 pins for less than $4/ea. If the blade is going to be dedicated to one tractor, you may as well go ahead and convert it.

Pin end -- the end were the lift arm ball is attached..opposite the threaded end on the implement side.

I was thinking about making it permenant, but thought I would try to keep it original so when I get ready to part company with it, or if I get a tractor with CatII...it would be nice to have the ability to put the original sized pins back in.

I looked at TSC online and they dont show a Cat 2/1 pin. They do show a 1/2 so you could use a cat 1 implement on a Cat 2 tractor but not the other way around. Your best bet would be to get a category 1 pin and put a bushing on ithe threaded end to fit the hole in your equipment.

Cheapest Way: Find some tubing with the correct OD & ID (1" OD & 7/8" ID) cut it a hair shorter then the mounting hole and slap a normal CATI pin on it..

More expensive... Find a Double Ended Pin like the one pictured, I KNOW i've seen a CATI/CATII version which was Cat II threaded...should just go right in.

That pin is unique...haven't run across one of them here. I think I'm going to have to go the bushing route.

Aside from this...what to you think the reasoning could be for not having a pin like this? If you have a catI and go to catII like Gary said, you would have a larger tractor on a smaller piece of equipment potentially causing equipment failure, safety issues etc. A catII implement on a catI tractor would be "downsizing" and the only issues I can think of would be the weight of the implement "might" exceed the tractors lift capacity, and the tractor might not be able to handle the equipment...but that's where one has to use judgement and common sense.

Maybe cause I'm dealing with it now, but I would think it would as common as the I to II pins currently available.

But what do I know......

I think I would quiz one of the knowledgeable guys at TSC and see if you can order the pin you need. They may be available and just not stocked as most folks dont need a Cat II implement for a Cat I tractor as they usually just dont have the capacity in HP or lift to handle a Cat II implement. You might also find something at your local tractor dealer (any brand dealer)

Here is the lower lift pin you are looking for on page 13, part number A-LP09.

http://www.aiproducts.com/pdfretail/ag/hitch.pdf

It has 1 1/8 thread and 7/8 pin. I did the same with a Cat I tractor and Cat II 8' blade. I had to mount the pins pointing in for the proper spread on the lower lift arms.

That's what I'm talking about! Mlauk, thank you! Thanks to all that replied...I do appreciate your efforts.....now to find some chains......

From the looks of the PDF...it might be hard on the pocket book....

If it was me.. i'd put in cat 1 pins and then use bushings if i needed it on a cat 2 tractor...
